All current db CDs for this song run between (3:44) and (3:47).

When it was a current, however, my local record shop had a German 12"
single for sale (WB 920 336-0). I bought it. Here are its contents:

Side 1:
1-Take On Me (Extended Version) (listed time 4:45)

Side 2:
1-(another song, "Love Is Reason" (listed time 3:01))
2-Take On Me (says "single version" on outer sleeve) (listed time 3:31)

Since the listed (3:31) version appears to be shorter than all the db CDs, I
wonder if both of the "Take On Me" versions included on this 12" are
unique to it. Again, I will now be looking into this one further....

Wow. I had no idea that there was an earlier-released 1984 recording of this song. It's a completely different recording than the hit LP/45 version. It even has a different music video than the award-winning "comic book" video from '85: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liq-seNVvrM - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liq-seNVvrM

As for the Extended Version, it's my favorite version of "Take On Me." It has been issued on a handful of import CDs with extended versions of '80s hits.

The 1984 version of Take On Me was a hit here in New
Zealand. It's the version I remember hearing most on the
radio and it's also the version that is most commonly
found on vinyl 45s in second hand music stores here.
Fortunately it made its CD debut a few years back on the
deluxe remastered edition of 'Hunting High And Low',
although oddly enough, the CD version included a short
drum intro that was not present on the original 45.

Here's an update on the German 12" copy that Jim references above. The "Single Version" is the same as the US LP/45 version, except that it runs just slightly faster and fades out slightly earlier than the 3:48 length. The actual time of the German 12" is 3:37.
