the cassingle i have of the song "jump around" issued as tommy boy 7526 has the word "ass" edited out at the 1:16 mark while the cd single version has the word in..........they are both titled the "master mix".......does anyone know which cd, if any, contains the true 45/cassingle version with the word "ass" edited out???..........also..........does anyone have the actual 45 with the same catalog number and does the 45 have the word "ass" edited out edtop40 ------------- edtop40 |

| There is a clean version of the full-length album that edits out four words. "Ass" "ho" (two times) and "bitch." Perhaps your cassette single edits all these words, too. The CD single is unedited. |

| I've always wondered why record labels were so inconsistent throughout the '90s about making decisions whether to issue a clean or uncensored version of a song on commercial single. And then there are cases like "Jump Around" where the version isn't even consistent from one commercial single format to another. |

aaron.........you're correct.........my cassingle edits out not only the word "ass" at the 1:15 mark but also the word "ho" at the 1:19 mark as well as the word "bitch" at the 2:25 mark...........i can't locate the second "ho" that you mention..........does anyone have the clean/editing full length cd that was apparently issued in 1992

Ed, the first "ho" is in verse one in the line "someone's talkin' junk, yo, I'll bust him in the eye, and then I'll take the punk's ho."
By the way, I have the clean full-length CD if you need this edit. |

I wasn't even aware this was ever issued as a 45. Pretty cool! I have a cool story about "Jump Around". When I was in college, I was the music director of my campus station in San Francisco. Cypress Hill came by the station(November 1991) on a tour to promote their first album. DJ Muggs was talking about working with this new group featuring Everlast, who prior to House Of Pain was a solo artist on Ice-T's Rhyme Syndicate label. Muggs had a cassette of the then still unsigned groups' first single. We were one of the first stations in the US to play "Jump Around". About a month after that they were signed to Tommy Boy and completed recording their first album. A few months after that thanks to the buzz generated by support from the street, that record took off like a shot. By summer it was Top Five single across the country. |

aaron.........i think you are mistaken on the 2nd "ho" in the song.........based on the lyrics below that "ho" is actually "home"......so we're fully clear on this......only 3 words are edited..........aaron.....check your clean full length cd to verify this.........edtop40

| I just finished listening to every cd listed in the database that contains "Jump Around" and found only 1 that contains the censored cassette single version of this song. That cd is the soundtrack to "Ready To Rumble" 143 Records/Atlantic 83340 which is the clean version of this soundtrack release. |

The clean CD is Tommy Boy TBCD 1064.
Ed, in regards to the lyrics...internet lyrics sites are often times inaccurate, as most of the time users submit what they think the lyrics are. I assure you, the lyrics are "take the punk's ho" and not "take the punks home." I sent you a copy of my clean CD version, and the first "ho" at 0:42 is edited out. |

edtop40--The 45 I have I bought in '92 or '93 from Nina's Discount
Oldies catalog. The label says it's from 1992, and it's the same Collectables that release all those re-issues and "Best Of's", with the 'Tommy Boy' and 'House Of Pain-Fine Malt Lyrics' logos. The label also says 'Master Mix 3:37', and the B-side is the same. |

Yeah, it's strange... but in general, the cassette single usually uses the "clean" version, where the CD single was often uncensored. Coolio's "1, 2, 3, 4" and "Fantastic Voyage" are two others that come to mind. |

Thanks Ed. I'm pretty sure that there wasn't a 45 of "Jump Around" pressed back then. If there was one at all back then, it may have been for jukeboxes only. When Tommy Boy serviced us with the single, we got the 12" vinyl single and a promo CD single with the edited version that was mentioned. The 12" singles I received were packaged accordingly. The first one was pressed on black vinyl and came in a generic Tommy Boy sleeve. Then I was sent another on black vinyl, but in a title pic sleeve with the House Of Pain logo. This was the same one the commercial single was shipped with, but promos had a gold promotional stamp in the upper left hand corner. The third ones sent out were pressed on clear green vinyl in generic Tommy Boy sleeves. Later a fourth copy was serviced with remix versions as the song began climbing the charts. |

Ed, did you check your cassette single again to confirm that "ho" at 0:42 is edited there, or do you have a unique edit different than the clean CD? I'm quite sure that it's not "home." For one, the line doesn't make much sense with "home." Everlast is talking about punching a guy who's trash talking, and then taking the guy's girl...or "ho." Taking punks home doesn't make any sense. Furthermore, "ho" is a better rhyme with "yo" than "home" is.
But that's really not the point anyhow. The point is that the cassette single (if we are deeming that the 45 version) is the censored "master mix" ... which is also the same as the censored LP version. (BTW, the "original mix" that appears on the CD single is a different mix than what appears on the album.) |

i just got the clean/edited cd "ready to rumble" and it does NOT contain the correct cassingle version of the song "jump around"..........the cassingle edits, or blanks, out the dirty words while this cd scrambles, them........different versions.........this should be noted in the db......... ------------- edtop40 |

Much confusion over this song, so I'm revisiting this thread.
I have what is listed as "Original Mix" on my Top Hits USA recurrents disc on the following CDs:
I have what is listed as "Album Version" on a Tommy Boy sampler on the following CDs:
You can tell the "album version" from the "original mix" because the album version has rat-a-tat backwards drum sounds after the word "shotgun" at 1:31, and has a beat at 3:06 where all the instrumentation drops out; both of these are absent from the "original mix". There is also one version that starts with the "Album Version" and edits out the naughty words:

TBCD 532 1. Master Mix (listed & actual 3:37) 2. Original Mix (listed & actual 3:30) Both mixes on this CD contain censored lyrics. TBCD 539 (Remixes) 1. Blood Stain Remix (listed & actual 3:56) 2. Pat, you must have not noticed my comment just below the track list and times; they are both censored.
As a side note, the TM Century HitDisc containing "Jump Around" uses the uncensored Original Mix, and so does Ron's Top Hits USA.
