Ok, so it didn't make the Top 40 by a long shot... according to Wikipedia it peaked at #73, but fared slightly better on the US Dance chart where it reached #32.
The 45 version is a remix and can be heard http://youtu.be/xj42w1DSZFQ - here . The listed time is 3:32 and the 45 runs close to that length. For the record, the LP version runs the same length as the 45 but sounds somewhat sparse in comparison.
I have yet to locate the 45 version on CD. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear on "Aces And Kings" at all, and almost every other Go West "Best Of" CD I have encountered contains a version that runs approximately 5:10. I can only assume it's the 12" version.
One exception is the "Ten Best Series - Best Of" CD, which I do not own. The listed time for "Eye To Eye" on this CD is 3:33. Can anyone with a copy of this CD in their possession confirm whether the 45 version appears on this CD please? The easiest way to tell is by listening to the line "when you close the door baby..." at 01:01. On the 45 version, the words "door baby" are echoed 2 or 3 times, whereas on the LP version there is no echo at all. There are other mix differences as well, but this is probably the most obvious (to my ears, anyway).
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

That is the only Go West CD I own and there is no echo on
the words "door baby" (for track seven "Eye To Eye").

Thanks for checking and confirming that for me, Santi.
In that case, it looks like I will have to locate a vinyl copy of "Eye To Eye" for my library.

There is also a possibility that the 5:10 version is the 12" single version, and that the 45 might have been an edit of that.
Just a thought, since that practice was so common at the time.

I believe the single mix is on Time-Life's cd Another
Lost Decade: the 80s - Second British Invasion

I wondered that too, so I listened to a short sample of the 5:10 version on iTunes. However, I'm pretty sure it's not the same mix as the 45.

Thanks for the tip, cmmmbase. I haven't ordered a vinyl copy of the 45 yet so I will try and source the Time-Life CD instead.

Bwci Bo, I think I have the "Eye To Eye" version that you are looking for. It
runs (3:33), and has the added echos you desire at just past the 1:00 mark. I
have it on a 2005 T/L-EMI Special Products V/A CD, but it is not the one you
speciify. Mine is titled "Another Lost Decade-The 80's: Second British
Invasion". The jewel case back insert states "single remix - previously
unavailable on CD" for the track.
I have just sent this file out to you for your analysis, using the e-mail addy in
your profile. Please let us know if it's legit, OK?

Thanks Jim!
Yes, your file matches the vinyl 45 and is exactly what I was looking for.
As it happens, I already have a copy of that particular T/L CD on order, so it's good to know I'll be getting the correct 45 version when it arrives.
That's one more 45 version on CD that I never really expected to find, so thanks to you and everyone else who chimed in on this one. I really appreciate it.
