Hello. I'm not sure if "can't stop loving you" and "not enough" were top 20
hits but I am curious as to the mix differences between the album version
and "radio remix" of "can't stop loving you" as well as the "CHR Remix No. 1"
and "CHR Remix No. 2" of "Not Enough."

Thanks!

Here's what I have for those two Van Halen songs:

"Can't Stop Lovin' You"
PRO-CD-7514-R
1. Radio Remix (listed 4:08; actual 4:07)

PRO-CD-7470-R
1. Album Version (listed 4:08; actual 4:07)

Doing an A/B comparison of the first 30 seconds, I don't hear any difference between the two. They have the same ending, too. I don't have the actual full-length album to compare, but the two promo CD singles sound the same to me.

"Not Enough"
PRO-CD-7664-R
1. CHR Remix No. 1 (listed & actual 3:35)
2. CHR Remix No. 2 (listed & actual 3:58)

PRO-CD-7681
1. Rock Radio Remix (listed 5:10; actual 5:11)
2. Rock Remix Edit (listed & actual 4:12)

Plain CD-R with no label, but has generic WB front insert
1. Soft Mix-Edit (listed & actual 3:31)

Since I don't have the album version to compare, I can't be much help in providing the difference between these mixes and the LP version. I can summarize the various mixes on these promo CDs, though.

- CHR Remix No. 1 & No. 2 have a synth overdub on some of the verses that I don't hear on the rock radio mixes. Without directly comparing the entire thing, I would guess that No. 1 is an edit of No. 2.

- The rock radio mixes are obviously longer and don't have the synth overdubs. The drums seem to be mixed differently, too.

- The Soft Mix-Edit sounds like the same mix as the CHR Remix, but they have removed the guitar solo in favor of parts with vocals. Again, I didn't closely compare, but it's probably an additional verse that was edited out of the CHR Remix.

Thanks Aaron. I too never noticed any difference back then on the versions
of "can't stop loving you." I do find it interesting how rock bands are true to
the term "remix." It's usually just a slight difference in the instruments and
how all the layers are mixed. Another band that comes to mind is Faith No
More and their hits "Falling to Pieces" and "Epic."
