Although not a top 40 hit, this was the first Hot 100
single for the group that would later dominate the charts
with "She Drives Me Crazy" and "Good Thing."
Based on what I see at Discogs, the LP label indicated
3:35 for its length, while a promo 45 label has the
single running 3:30.
I've found several digital copies of the song, running
anywhere from 3:25 to 3:35. All mixes are identical.
Can anybody tell me what the actual running time of the
promo single of Fine Young Cannibals' "Johnny Come Home"
is, and if there was any speed difference? (The shortest
version I have is also slower than the other versions.)
My suspicion is that the LP version and the single
version (and the radio promo version) are all identical
down the length... if there IS any difference, I suspect
it is a five second early fade.

Gene, you are asking for more specifics than I am currently able to provide.
Both sides of my promo 45 are identical; listed time (3:30); actual time
(3:31).
However, I have no way of knowing whether my promo 45 was "sped up", vs.
whatever CD/video versions you happen to be referencing.

3:31 narrows the (potential) difference between the LP and
7" single to four seconds... truly, negligible.

FWIW, the longest version was on "Now That's What I Call
Music 5." The shortest version is unspecified.

The LP version runs 133.7 BPM throughout (live drummer playing to a click track, no drift) on the Fine Young Cannibals CD. You can use this to tell how fast/slow your version i in comparison.
It runs 133.2 BPM on the UK 2-CD Now 1985 (1993), where it's faded early. Don't use this version.
