Not a top-40 hit, but one of those songs a lot of people seem to know (thanks to Kanye West). I have a version that runs (3:40), but I'm seeing single copies on
Discogs that show a (2:51) running time. Anyone know if that was the correct running time and I have a wrong edit?

Jim was kind enough to forward Aaron's recreation of the single. One edit (from about (2:31) to about (2:46)) and an extremely early fade (to about (2:52) of the
resulting file). (LP version runs (8:57).)

It would appear the version I have is just the first (3:40) of the full version (but mixed pretty poorly--I will be losing this file soon).

As a sidenote, Wiki definitely mentions Kanye as one who has sampled this song, but I would swear I've heard it used elsewhere but can't for the life of me place it.
Anybody know for sure?

Try these:

Touch the Sky by Kanye West feat. Lupe Fiasco (2005)
Astounded by Bran Van 3000 feat. Curtis Mayfield (2001)
Move on Up by Trickster (CMV's) (1998)
Keep on Pushin' by Jazz Thieves (2006)
Chun Li vs. E Honda by Charles Hamilton (2013)
Ghetto by Kids These Days (2012)
We Go Subsonic by Subsonic 2 (1990)

It's a nice song but the LP version is way too long. The edit would be the ideal length IMO.

Thanks, Santi! For some reason those weren't what I was thinking of--I had thought Puff Daddy or Jay-Z had used it somewhere along the line.
