Eugene Wilde - Gotta Get You Home Tonight only made it to #83 on the Billboard Hot 100, but went to #1 on the R&B charts in 1985.

Based on the music video, the LP version cannot be edited down to match the video version because of new lyrics starting at approximately 3:27 with "gonna turn the lights down low..."

OTOH, I found another YouTube video which matched the length, but was simply an early fade.

The LP version runs approximately 5:17.

Discogs lists the US single and promo as running 3:58.

They ALSO list a single version in the Netherlands which runs 3:32, but I don't know if that was a misprint nor do I know if it was released in the United States. I couldn't find audio of a version that short.

Does anybody know if the promo edit was an early fade or alternate lyrics... and if the promo was alternate lyrics, does anybody know if that version has made it onto CD, either here or internationally?

My commercial 45 runs about (3;57) and has the "gonna turn the lights down low..." line at about (3;27). I've never heard the LP version and wasn't aware it had different lyrics.

Gene, I finally had a moment to go digging deep into my 1985 promo 45
boxes. Both sides of my Philly World/Atlantic 99710 promo include the
same, listed (3:58), actual (3:57) version, with handwritten deadwax of "ST-
PW-46744-1". I have no evidence of any (3:32) version for this song ever
being issued in the U.S. Gene, I have also just shot you out a vinyl 45 dub for
it; it looked to be in stone mint condition.

Gene,

Any update on this elusive 45 version? All I have in the
archives is the 3:30 faded version.

Does the full LP version exist on CD?

Does anyone have it?

Good song.

I have the LP version on a UK 2-CD compilation called Mellow Mellow (Harmless HURTCD 099, released 2010).

It's also on the 2019 rerelease of Now That's What I Call Music UK Vol. 4, but the dynamic range is severely compressed/limited; avoid.
