DEF LEPPARD - HAVE YOU EVER NEEDED SOMEONE SO BAD (Mercury CDP 722)
1) Radio Edit - 4:30
My conclusion: DJ copies of this single run (4:30); commercial copies were all (5:21)
I'd like to point out that the CD itself contains catalog number CDP 744 and has a printed time of 4:29. My guess is that there are some copies issued with the disc CDP 722. This is not the only time Mercury issued a different promo CD in the same cardboard sleeve as a previous issue.

Is the DJ edit of this song just an early fade to 4:30?

To answer my own question, it's not an early fade. I
found the official video online and noticed there are
out-of-sequence edits.

My earlier suspicions about CDP 722 are finally confirmed. I obtained a copy of this disc, and it has the full-length version, running an actual 5:24. The fade out is long and very quiet at the end.
