LP version (3:52-ish)

I have the LP version on Time-Life's Sounds Of The Seventies Vol. 15 1974 Take Two (1991), where it sounds just OK. Great dynamic range and reasonable EQ, but overall it sounds a little lifeless, like it's from a higher-generation tape source or uses a little noise reduction. There's a digitally identical clone on Time-Life's 2-CD Singers And Songwriters Vol. 3 1974-1975 (1999).

I think it sounds a little better on Arista's Clouds In My Coffee 1965-1995 collection. It's a tiny bit loud, but it otherwise has a great dynamic range, nice EQ, seems to be from a very low-generation tape source, and shows no evidence of noise reduction, even on the very long tail of the fade.

45 edit (3:37)

I have the 45 edit on Elektra's Best Of (copyright 1975). My copy has a "RE-1" in the matrix number, so it's a reissue. There must be non-RE-1 copies out there, but I don't know what the difference is. My copy runs 3:36. There's a differently-EQ'd digital clone on Time-Life's 2-CD Body Talk Vol. 19 Always And Forever (1998).

The version on Rhino's Billboard Top Soft Rock Hits 1974 (1997) omits the edit that's on the Best Of disc, and instead fades the LP version early. It does sound spectacular here, even though this early fade of the LP version wasn't released when the song was a hit in 1974. To check, the version on Billboard Top Soft Rock Hits 1974 transitions into its closing instrumental portion at 3:05, while the 45 edit on Best Of transitions into its closing instrumental portion at 2:57. Currently, this Rhino disc is labeled in the database as "45 version". It should be changed to "early fade of LP version".

To Ron:

The 45 edit is really an edit/remix with different vamp vocals right before the closing instrumental portion.

Maybe they should have called it "Loud in My Coffee". :)

Has the true 45 remix/edit appeared on any CD, domestic or import?

There is what looks like a mono promo 45 that does run 3:25 and is labeled short version. AnotherProf recently posted this video:

I was watching the video. The label has a listed time of
3:50 but the 45 runs around 3:35 to 3:36. Isn't that the
same as the 45 version?

It might be a dedicated mix, not sure

Santi sent me a link to the shorter version which I believe
is just an earlier fade and a run time of 3:28.

My beaten-up 45 copy seems to match what's on my CD copy of "The Best of Carly Simon" (mine is a German-made copy
from 1991 which adds the track "Why" to the start of the program).

Should the database entry for this be edited to reflect that the version on the Rhino Top Soft Rock discs reads "neither the 45 or LP version"?

Short mono promo runs 3:29/3:30 in that AnotherProf YouTube video. So it is
unique. Don't detect a mixing difference.

Has anyone confirmed if the US CD of "Best Of" has the 45 version?
