Looking for this #28 1956 hit in the database, and can not find it.
I have it on Your Hit Parade '50s Instrumentals. On Youtube, the Hits Archive
guys says its an alternate take.
Can anyone chime in to help me on this? And where can I find the 45 hit
version?
thanks.

David, I can't speak for Pat, but "April In Paris" peaked at #43 in Cash Box, perhaps that's why it didn't make the cut.
The 45 version is on Your Hit Parade: 50's Instrumentals.

My copy is in mono, from April In Paris (Bonus Tracks).
Run time is 3:46. Sounds like the hit version to me.
What's the run time of the 45?

Hits Archive told me there is a difference in the trumpet solo starting at about
1:25 to about 1:42, where there might be some kind of edit. A version ed sent
me that matches this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdBz8SzL2-k
is not the same as the Time-Life version I have. I also notice the trumpet at
the very beginning is either different or much lower in the mix on the Hits
Archive version.
So, seems TL's Your Hit Parade: 50's Instrumentals has an alternate version or
something?

Interesting info. I always assumed the version on TL CD was the 45 version, based on the run time alone. Goes to show you can't assume anything without comparing!

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like I'll have to
replace the copy in my collection which is sourced from
the TL CD.

Glad we got to the bottom of this one. It takes a collective effort from us to do
so as well. So glad to be a part of this group, and it goes to show how
valuable this chat board is.

The Verve Master Edition CD from the late 1990's if I
recall, has the correct 45 RPM version of "April In Paris"
and sounds very good.

I have a Clef 45, the Time-Life CD, and the 1997 Verve CD reissue of the April In Paris album (Verve 314 521 402-2). The Verve CD contains a number of "alternate takes" as bonus tracks, including one of the title track. The two versions of the song "April In Paris" are tracks 1 and 11. Track 1 is the same as my 45 and Track 11 is the same as the Time-Life CD.

This song is now listed in the database, but the listing
omits Rhino's Masters Of Jazz, Vol. 7: Jazz Hit
Singles, which contains the alternate take.

Thanks to everyone for the information on this. It's
allowed me to verify that I do have the correct 45
version.
