I was going through some old 45's and can't believe how different the Simon &
Garfunkel single versions are to the LP's. "I Am a Rock" and "Hazy Shade of
Winter" sound like different songs. Does anyone know of a compilation (even
imported) that has these mixes, or where i can get my hands on clean copies
of them?

Thanks,

Tony

Hi Tony. I think there is no official CD release anywhere of the mono singles for the duo and it may never happen especially if Paul Simon has anything to do with it. The only one that sneaked out on CD is the mono "Fakin' It" which was included on the 20 track Best Of in 1999. Many of us have had to resort to buying the 45s to get those rare mono mixes.

There is a certain place where those mono single mixes have been
"made available" in fantastic quality. Please use the Private Messenger
or email to discuss further.

The Best Of Simon & Garfunkel has the mono 45 version of
"Fakin' It". The only legitimate mono 45
version to be issued digitally. Also, bear in mind there
are two different mono 45 versions of "I Am A Rock" the
first one having different vocal inflections. The second
one is closer to the common Stereo but different dedicated
mono mix. The original first version is first pressings
only.

Aside from a reissue, I know of no regular
Columbia 45s that contain something other
than the hit 45 mix, with the different
vocal on the intro.

Live in stereo.
