A PBS exclusive.

The deluxe 3-CD The 1960s Singles Plus is the set for which Dionne fans have long been waiting: a complete collection featuring the A- and B-sides of every one of her classic Scepter Records singles, first released between 1962 and 1977. A total of 74 songs are featured including all of the classic original Bacharach/David productions like “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again,” “Promises, Promises,” and “Anyone Who Had A Heart,” and rare favorites like “Slaves,” “Amanda,” “He’s Moving On,” and many, many more. All of the remastered tracks are presented in their original mono single mixes, with the exception of a few later titles issued as stereo singles. Music historian Paul Grein has provided the new liner notes, and rare pictures are sprinkled throughout.

Thanks for alerting us to this, Indy.

I just placed my order from wned.org, which required a $150
donation, but in addition to this 3-CD set, you apparently also get a
‘Hits and Rarities’ CD.

Dionne Warwick owns her Scepter masters herself. (I could swear
reading many years ago that she co-owned them with Burt Bacharach
and Hal David, but I now cannot find any reference to Bacharach and
David’s estate holding an ownership interest, so that does not appear to
be accurate.)

How does one find this set?

Only available via your local PBS station as a pledge gift. As Paul stated above, it's a one time pledge of $150 to get this three disc set plus that pledge also gets you a fourth disc of hits & rarities covering the period of 1974-1999. I believe you can also pledge on a monthly basis for much less and still get the CDs (it's called a sustaining membership which is ongoing, and automatically renews each year). PBS will ship the gifts to you as long as you are in the United States.

What if you only want the “rarities” cd? Do you still have to cough up
$150??

Michael:

Unfortunately you can't get that one disc on it's own. There is another single disc available for much less but it's a collection of Dionne's recordings put together by TJ Lubinsky five years ago for a Burt Bacharach My Music Special. This 2018 special on Dionne is another in that My Music series that TJ has been doing now for two decades exclusively for PBS pledge drives. Another special a few years ago was on the Carpenters that also featured a three disc singles collection. My suggestion is to find a collector that only wants the three disc set and is willing to part with the "Hits & Rarities" disc.

Does anyone know if this CD set can still be bought from PBS? Would I have to find my (or any local) PBS phone # to order? I, too, would mainly want the Rarities disc, but even if it was sold on ebay, the rarity factor would probably make it sell for ... well, close to the original box set, I supsect!

You’re probably right.

Local PBS stations are still playing this My Music special so the CDs are also available as pledge gifts online via each local channel's website. I would never use the word purchase or buy. Also, don't forget you can make a one time pledge (which is the larger amount stated earlier in this thread) or make the ongoing smaller pledge that happens monthly (with the sustaining membership an autopayment occurs automatically every 30 days). Plus most (if not all) of these pledge gifts can only be shipped to a US address (so collectors abroad would never be able to get them direct from a PBS station). Hope this helps.

"This Girl's In Love With You" has a very noisy intro and runs only (4:09), compared to (4:18) for the 45.

For $150, they'd better bring back The Electric Company.

WNED, the Buffalo PBS affiliate which gets most of its viewers and most of its financial support from people in Southern Ontario, will ship to Canadian addresses. (I don't know about other countries.)

Out of curiosity, has anyone seen if there have been any posts with
an analysis of the CD the way it was done for The Carpenters
release? Curious on the details if all of the correct versions were
used, any vinyl transfers. etc.

There's an odd splice that occurs at 3:18 on the version of "You Can Have Him" from this set.

It's not present on the 45 if the video below is sourced from the single:

FYI, Real Gone Music in April 2023 will be releasing the
same three CD set of Dionne's singles that was a PBS
exclusive almost six years ago. Limited to 3,000 copies so
my hunch is they will sell out quickly.

One unfortunate consequence of having purchased both the
Dionne Warwick and the Carpenters sets is that I am still
receiving about 6-8 letters a year from PBS asking me to
'renew' my membership. I'm always tempted to tell them that
I'll 'renew' my membership when they offer another one of
these 'complete singles' sets (Lesley Gore, Brenda Lee,
Neil Sedaka), but I doubt that will ever happen.
