I do not have the cassette single of the song "Slam" by Onyx so can anyone fill me in on the difference between the cassette single and the LP version? There must be a difference as the jacket to the new Hip Hop Gold cd mentions "LP version" behind the title of "Slam".

Pat, my guess as to why they would list "LP version" on the disc is because there were several remixes of this track on the CD-maxi single. An e-bay seller lists the cassette single as having the "LP version" as the lead track (and "Bionyx Remix" as track 2).

TM Century lists the version as "Vocal," which leads me to believe that the promo single has it labeled as such. There is no difference between the "Vocal" and "LP version" as there are no censored lyrics or mix differences.

I believe Aaron is correct. My 2-track promo CD single has 1. Vocal 2. Instrumental. Both state and are actually (3:36). We were also sent the stock 5-track CD single, with "LP version" as Track 3, listed at (3:38) but is actually (3:36). Just popped 'em in CD players 1 & 2, comparing every few seconds, and as Aaron said, "Vocal" and "LP Version" do appear to be identical.

I have the commercial 12" single, if this is any help. This only has the Vocal mix and an instrumental -- no remixes. If I recall correctly, the "Slam" remixes available on CD were all rock remixes.

my cassette single issued as jmj/ral 77053 contains the "vocal" version running 3:38 and is identical to the version from the cd

The version on Monsters Of Rap Vol. 1 has a car horn dubbed in at the very end, but the LP version from the commercial CD single does not. Perhaps they're two LP versions after
all?

Many of the tracks on the parent LP are segued together, which is the case for "Slam." It segues into "Stik 'N'Muve," which starts with street/city sound effects. What you're hearing on Monsters Of Rap is the segue between the two songs. The LP version on the singles is un-segued.
