Mono versions of this song that I have on CD have a guitar strum over Ringo's very first words "In the...". All stereo mixes, including the "Songtrack" version do not have this guitar strum.

So, what was on the U.S. 45? I can only assume the U.K. 45 and mono "Revolver" LP contain the opening guitar strum, but I have neither to confirm. Anyone?

I do realize "Songtrack" features John's first answer vocal at 1:47, but it wouldn't be the 45 version if the U.S. mono 45 contained the strum.

(busy few days diving deep into my collection and the database...)

My copy of the 45 of "Yellow Submarine" has the opening guitar strum as does the stereo version found on "Yellow Submarine Songtrack" so I consider both of them to be the 45 version.

hummm...I just checked my "Yellow Submarine Songtrack" CD and it does NOT have the opening guitar strum. Mine is made in Canada. It surprises me that other copies would have it. I now need to hear a copy with it!

I'll check my copy tonight. If there's a strum (and no one else has gotten you a copy), I'll forward it to you.

OK, my copy does not have the opening guitar strum over "In the..." either. There is a more pronounced strum over "town" than there is on my Revolver CD, though. So it seems as if there are two pressings of the Songtrack CD, one with the proper 45 version and one without it (I am assuming from the "printed in U.S.A." mark on the CD, the jacket and the booklet that I have a U.S. pressing).

Sorry, David.

thanks Doug.

Pat,

that's two CDs without the opening strum - one Canadian and one U.S. Could you please check yours again and we can get to the bottom of this. If indeed there is a version with the strum, we need to know more about it!

thanks.

Hmmm I must have been doing some drugs when I perceived a strum on the intro to Yellow Submarine on the "Yellow Submarine Songtrack" as I do not hear it now. Sorry about that false alarm David.

Pat,

I see you already updated your database, but a better comment might be "neither the 45 or LP version" for the Songtrack CD. There is the matter of Lennon's answer vocal at (1:47), which is on the Songtrack CD but not on the Revolver CD. (Of course, I don't have the 45, but I'm going by David's comments above that I believe suggest the U.S. 45 had that vocal.)

My commercial 45, confirmed as Capitol 5715, has a listed time of (2:40), but an actual time of (2:37). My 45 is vinyl, with deadwax info of "45619 T2 G". FYI, all current CD database entries run either (2:36) or (2:37).
