here's another one for the class.....my 45 issued as dash 5050 states on the label the run time as 4:16 but it actually runs 4:05 and is just an early fade of the 4:16 full length version from the cd "Collectables 6233 Get Off/Hot Numbers (LP version)"..........all the entries in the db state the 3:44 version as the 45 version.........is it possible you have the dj/promo 45 as your point of reference.......or are there 2 45 versions available?..........anyone else have the commercial 45?..........on my 45 the run-out groove says "DA 5050 R2 - C - A - 1"...

The deadwax on my stock 45 reads exactly the same as yours does, Ed.

My 45 timing agrees with yours, Ed. (4:05).

My commercial 45 runs (4:05) also. Jim do you have a white label dj copy that perhaps runs (3:44)?

Pat: It's not a white-label DJ copy - it has the normal Dash label, but it is a factory "D.J. - Not For Sale" copy, not a promo-stamped stock copy. The Hot Number "A" side has a listed time of (3:43), but actually runs (3:34); the Hot Number "B" side has the same stats as the stock 45, listed at (4:16) but actually runs (4:05).

Jim, is the short dj edit the version that is showing up on a number of cd's with a similar time of (3:44)?

Pat: I noticed many CD versions of "Hot Number" in the db showing up at (3:44), and FULLY expected my short DJ 45 edit, listed at (3:43), to time out there. But, unfortunately, it didn't. My (3:34) is not a typo for (3:43), it is in fact (3:34), 9 secs. shorter than the listed time. I know we all hate to see those "neither the 45 nor the LP version" entries in the db. Perhaps someone at Rhino had the promo, saw the (3:43) listed time, and tried to "re-create" a version exactly that long - wouldn't be the first time, as we all know. Despite hitting the Top 20, no one in my area played this, and I don't know the nuances of it well enough to say if the (3:44) CD versions are, in fact, the (3:34) version, but just :10 longer - my apologies. I'll include the (3:34) dub in my next parcel to you, Pat, for your own analysis.

I've always assumed that the 3:34 edit was the original commercial 45, since that's what I remember hearing on the radio back in 1979. I never owned the 45. To make this even more complicated, TK also issued a commercial 12" single of "Hot Number" that runs 6:09. I believe this is the actual full length version of the song, since it repeats the intro of the song and repeats the two verses and bridge of the song, but not exactly. The vocals in the second half are different than in the first. The version that runs 3:43 that appears on most compilation CD's including the Rhino compilation "Get Down Tonight!:The Best Of TK Records" was an attempt to recreate the dj 45 edit.

I can confirm that the "neither" version on CD running 3:44 is the promo 45 version but :10 longer. The edits are 100% correct, but the fade runs longer.

does anyone know the fade points for the dj edit versus the
lp version......meaning....can you just fade the lp version
to re-create the dj edit?

Revisiting this, can the promo 45 version on CD that's :10
longer than the actual promo 45 be faded to the correct
promo 45 length? Does anyone have fade points?
