Is it just me or does every CD copy of this song timing in at 2:29 sound awful? You can clearly hear the vinyl, which distracts from this great song.
Can anyone recommend a better source on CD (if one exists) for the song or is this as good as it gets? Also I see the LP Version available on 7 Digital and Tidal Store, but is the 45 the LP version found on her 1976 same titled album? If the LP version and the 45 are not the same, what are the differences?

I agree that all of the CD versions sound dreadful. This thread may give you some info on the LP version and how it might sound: http://www.top40musiconcd.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9129&KW=grecco - http://www.top40musiconcd.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9129 &KW=grecco

The CDs all sound dreadful because all Private Stock master tapes were thrown out when the owner (Larry Uttal's son) decided to stop paying the storage bills in the early '80s. He thought no one would ever have a need for master tapes. This was shortly before CDs came along - and also shortsighted. Some tapes that were licensed to Private Stock (e.g. "Don't Give Up On Us", Frankie Valli stuff) still exist. But many don't. Such is the case with Cyndi Grecco. All mastered from vinyl poorly. Luckily, at least the one that Mark and I cleaned from vinyl, as you know, sounds better than what's out there.

If I can give both you and Mark a thumbs up, I would....

If you can find it, I've found that the Commonwealth Music/K-Tel vinyl album "Music Explosion" contains several Private Stock releases, including Cyndi,
that to my ear, came from master tape dubs.

I agree that the sound on that LP, despite having 8 tracks on each side, is pretty good. (Thanks for letting me borrow your copy a while back.) I went ahead and ordered a sealed copy this morning, just to have an additional source for those tracks.

I am amazed and delighted that the best-sounding version of any song is on a 1977 K-Tel compilation LP. I'm not sure why this makes me so happy.

Luckily, there are copies decently priced on Discogs.

Makes me happy because I used to own a HUGE K-Tel album
collection. They are easy to pick on, but when I was a
kid, it was a great way to get a lot of hits for little
money.

I cannot locate the 16 track K Tel Music Explosion from 1977 mentioned above with the Cyndi Greco track. Do I have the title correct?

And, especially in the early 70s were often the only way to
get these songs in stereo other than the stereo side of
promo copies.
The downside, of course was that the songs were often
edited, or at least faded early.

This got me thinking, are their any other 45 versions or
mixes on this K-Tel album?
Is Rock Your Baby the true 45 version?
Is Get Dancin' the 3:55 special edit?
Is Did You Boogie the version without Wolfman?
Is Midnight Train To Georgia the 45 version?
Is Rockin' Chair a better sounding version than what's out
there?

I sent Bill's LP back to him quite a long time ago, but I did also make a dub of "Get Dancin.'" It runs an actual 3:07 on the K-Tel LP. When I get the sealed copy, I can pop it open to check the other tracks.

Please let us know what you find, Aaron. I'm especially curious about "Did You Boogie" (without Wolfman) & "Rockin' Chair".
