Hi, Just wondering please if there has been an
official CD release with the original single edit of
Elton John's "Song for guy". They seems to be a lot
of mismatched information between discogs and my CD
collection. On the 1982 "Love Songs", it notes the
length being 5:18, yet on my CD copy it is the full
sleepy 6:37. As in relation to the 1990 Very Best of
Elton John, Discogs notes 5:05, yet my CD copy has
6:40.
There is a 5:02 version on his 1995 1996 edition of
love songs which would have sufficed, but
unfortunately its been put through the dog cutter, the
waveform is already badly damaged from over
compression, as this was the start of the loudness
war.
So now I'm surmising that the single edit of this song
was not released during the better days of CD, pre
1993? If not, I'll have to cut it myself, but though
my editing skills are good, I'm really trying to keep
this option as an absolute extremely last resort as I
prefer to have official releases in my collection.

Fixed, since hyperlink doesn't seem to be working.
The single edit was on this 1989 import promo CD sampler:
https://www.discogs.com/Elton-John-The-World/release/4199110
The above sampler also contains the UK Edit of "Nikita," which was the US 45 version.
The single edit of "Song For Guy" was also on this 1994 US promo CD sampler:

Brian, you need to put the tags with the correct HTML for website links. Then it should work fine!

Thanx guys, will check them out, apparently my friend
has the UK edition of the very best of from 1990, which
actually has the official australian seven inch version
of song for guy at 5:02, so waiting from him for sending
me a ripped copy later tonight, failing that, I'll go
for the 1989 sampler off discogs.

I clicked the "globe" symbol and pasted in the links,
the same as I always do, and it turned out wonky for
me. I tried it three times in two different browsers.

Hey edtop40, that is much appreciated, only just
checked back today Thanx, I already purchased the
track from the UK store called ilikemusic. I ended
buying the single track off a 1991 virgin compilation
entitled "Moods"
https://www.discogs.com/Various-Moods/release/3424052
The single edit was also available on the love
collection, another UK compilation put out by Trax
Media, which I think is nothing related to the
Australian label by the same name which was a
subsidory of PolyGram.
