I have an edit in my collection timing in at 3:31...it doesnt appear to match any promo or comp on discogs. Anyone have any idea if this is legit or the 3:59 is the only official release of this song?

I "think" there was an edit that was only released on a Radio Promo CD compilation, I believe it was The Network 40, from the Album Network. Possibly an an
intro edit, maybe an early fade or some other edit to make it sound more "mainstream". But that edit wasn't released anywhere else as far as I know, if I'm remembering
correctly, and it came from a radio station.

Bill, you're exactly right. This version is on Tune Up Next 40 #56. When you say "it came from a radio station," do you mean that a station did an in-house edit, which was then serviced by Album Network?

You're also right about making it more "mainstream." This version not only trims the "urban" sounding intro by quite a bit, but it also lays the final acapella vocal ("there's nothin' my love can't fix") on top of the intro. Additionally, where the LP version goes into the rap at the end, this version cuts to an earlier chorus and fades out.

Unless I'm confusing it with another song, the edit may have come from me. I needed a more "mainstream" version of the song for G105 Raleigh, so I believe that's my
edit. The MCA record promoter was having trouble getting the song played at some stations, so he asked for a copy of it, and I think MCA "re-created it" for the
Tune Up CD, or they used my copy, which is the only place that I'm aware that it ever appeaared. There was no "re-issue" other than that promo CD, that I'm aware of.

That's why I can't find it on a promo or official single release...check your PM. I do like the 3:31, it flows better. I don't think the rap would fly as much, the edit solves the problem. I can see why it was created. Aaron is right, the ending "Nothin My Love Cant Fix" line is at the beginning, the song proceeds and then the rap from 3:20-3:56 in the album version is completely edited out. The edit has a 3:13-3:28 fade unlike the album.

I was a fan of this song when it was current. IMO, the rap is so quirky, that it really makes the song for me. I
wasn't happy when I heard the no rap version on the radio.
