The Second Disc is reporting that on 10/22, a 2-CD/1 DVD 40th Anniversary set of Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" album will be released, with bonus tracks to include:
-Tied Up (Edited Version)
-Physical (12" Version)
-(Livin' In) Desperate Times (Remixed Version)

40th-anniversary/
The article lists the Australian single catalog number when referencing "Tied Up," which had approximately the same listed running time as the US MCA single (4:10 vs. 4:08, respectively), so hopefully it's the same edit.

It will be VERY interesting what versions of "Livin'
In Desperate Times" are included here. Back in 1983-
4, there was the soundtrack version (also used in the
video), a remixed version with a new vocal used for
the single and a longer 12" version. When Olivia's
"Gold" CD and "Video Gold" DVDs were released 20+
years later, a new, frankly choppy, edit of the album
version was used. The video was even re-cut to match
the new edit! The prevailing (and unsubstantiated!)
"rumour" was that the song was re-edited due to master
issues. So, which versions will "Physical 40" have -
1983/4, 2000s and/or something else entirely? And why
did the 2000s edit even exist at all?
I can't believe how inexpensive this is! I recall
that when the "Physical" album was released on VHS, it
cost around $60. For $35 less, you can now buy that
plus the album with bonus tracks, another CD and the
concert DVD!
As comprehensive as this collection is, it is
disappointing that there were apparently no
additional, previously unreleased songs from the
"Physical" era. Hard to believe that there was not at
least one song recorded or even demoed for this
album that did not make the final cut. I also wonder
whether the songs cut from the concert ("Have You
Never Been Mellow" and "If Not For You") when this
originally aired on HBO were ever filmed and why they
were excluded. (I assume time constraints.) If they
were filmed and the footage still exists, it would
have been a nice addition to the concert video.

Well, the link lists four versions:
-Livin' In Desperate Times (Remixed Version) (Interfusion (Australia) single K-9331, 1984)
-Livin' In Desperate Times (Extended Version) (MCA (U.S.) 12-inch single MCA-13987, 1984)
-Livin' In Desperate Times (Soundtrack Version) (from Two of a Kind, MCA MCA-6127, 1983)
-Livin' In Desperate Times (Alternate Soundtrack Version) (source TBD)
-Livin' In Desperate Times (Humberto's Alternate Mix) (MCA (U.S.) single MCA-52341, 1984)

The real question is whether this release is only "physical" for purchase or if it will be digitally available for download. (pun intended)
------------- Favorite two expressions to live by on this board: "You can't download vinyl" and "Not everything is available on CD."

I expect the first three versions you list to be the
ones I noted that were released in 1983/4. The
"Alternate Soundtrack" version may be the 2000s
edit. I have never heard of Humberto's Mix then or
since.
What intrigues me about this is why the 2000s edit even
exists. If this package includes the authentic 1983/4
versions (i.e. they still exist!), why weren't those
then used when the "Gold" CD and "Video Gold" DVD were
released?

The story goes that the original album version master of
"Livin'" could not be located years ago when they
compiled the "Two Of A Kind" soundtrack for CD, hence why
they did the re-edit, but of course many people knew it
wasn't the correct version. I would assume it still
hadn't been located in 2005 when they did the "Gold"
compilation.
But again, that's just what I remember reading on some
site somewhere. How true it is, I have no idea.

It's on streaming platforms already so I guess it'll be on sale, digitally, too:

So the MCA US single is 4:02 and the LP Version is 3:44.
One of the few times the 45 is longer than the LP!
At least what I'm finding out here.

I never understood the cover art used for the
"Desperate" single. Although they were snapped from the
video, MCA could have found something far more
flattering to showcase Olivia than those pictures!

Wasn't Olivia supposed to release a duets compilation,
"Just The Two Of Us," earlier this year? When Paul Anka
released his duet, "Put Your Head On My Shoulder," with
Olivia a few months ago, the video hinted at the
forthcoming album. I since read online it will be a 32
track collection including duets with Anne Murray, Andy
Gibb, Dionne Warwick and others. But, I have never
found a complete tracklisting or, more importantly, a
release date.

The correct 45 mix of Desperate Times - tagged re-mixed version - was
included on the deluxe release of Physical. Kudos to the folks involved in
this set for finally getting this to CD.

Maybe they were just so... desperate to release the single
that they couldn't be bothered to wait for better photos to
come along.

Glad to hear they got the "Desperate" versions right after
that awful edit used since the 2000s. This bodes well for
future ON-J reissues. Still never heard of Humberto's
Alternate Mix of "Desperate," though.
Where are the alternate versions of "Carried Away" and
"Twist Of Fate" from? I thought the latter would be the
video version, but I can barely discern any difference
between the 40 version and that from the "Two Of A Kind"
soundtrack.

Debuts at # 52 on Top Album Sales - not enough to get her
back onto the Billboard 200.

Primary Wave recently released two "Megamix" medleys
which include all ten tracks on the "Physical" album.
Since this was released nearly three months after the
Deluxe Edition CD/DVD and months before the vinyl re-
release, I can't see why Primary Wave frankly
bothered...especially since this is something they could
have included among the package's bonus tracks.
This led me to wonder just how Primary Wave is making
money on this. The costs of recording, production, etc.
were all incurred decades ago. Yet, it still cost
something to license the music and video content as well
as research, curate, package and distribute the product.
Based on its one week at #52 on Billboard's Album Sales
chart, this has at best sold a few thousand copies. How
could Primary Wave have profited from such meager sales?
