Just like 1985, I have pretty much exhausted all the lower charting hits available on albums and in the digital realm. I know a lot of people on this board sometimes come across the songs on this list or can point me in the right direction where to obtain the CD for them.
For some there are LP versions but no idea if the 45 can be made from them. Carol Lynn Townes - 99½ - Isn't the single version also the Breakin' soundtrack album version? The CD releases of that soundtrack do not sound great, though.

I have Bonnie Tyler's "Take Me Back [Edit]" on Cherry
Red's 2017 2-CD set "Remixes and Rarities". The sound quality suffers from shrill brick-walling, so a re-creation from a better source would probably be a better option. I have the digital 45 of Teddy's/Whitney's "Hold Me" from 7digital. Psychedelic Furs' "The Ghost in You [Single Version]" is on 2005's "Heartbreak Beat" (SonyBMG compilation). I'm interested to know if streisand's "left in the dark" has ever appeared
anywhere on CD besides the original "emotion" cd (which has never seen a remaster of any kind...)? I've never been crazy about the sound of that CD... |

No. "Left in the Dark" hasn't appeared anywhere else except the original
album's CD, which has never been remastered/reissued. It's actually my favorite Streisand song (Hey, I'm a huge Jim Steinman fan) and probably my favorite Streisand album ("Emotion"). Sadly, when I upgraded my LP to CD, I noticed they took out about 5 seconds of the fade, which was on the LP but not the CD. The CD could contain 74-80 minutes of music and I don't understand why they'd ever do this. Has anyone ever taken the LP, cleaned it and tacked it on to the CD version? On CD, those strings at the end just feel like they were faded much too fast. |

Right here and now (Bill Medley) was released in Germany on
CD in the mid 80s and there is a Japanese reissue of Joey Chemay band The riper the finer from 2002. Turley Richards only hit is included in the album Therfu which was reissued for the first time in Japan a few years ago. I guess LP and 45 versions are basically the same (maybe Lp is a few seconds longer). |

336 - Donna Summer - Love Has A Mind Of Its Own 3:40
On the recent https://www.discogs.com/release/15020785-Donna-Summer-Encore - Encore CD box set, there is a so-called 7" Single Version which runs 3:48. It is actually just an early fade of the album version. Compared to the edited 45, it fades out at about the right spot, though not as smoothly as the 45, and notably, it doesn't have the edit. I used it to make my own edit and it turned out quite well. So, starting from the version on the Encore CD, I trimmed leading silence, then at 1:11, cut on the beat, removing the part from the beginning of the first piano note to the equivalent spot 7 seconds later, where there are strings in the background. I also redid the fade, making it start at 3:22 (around 3:22) and proceed very smoothly. |

Regarding “Right Away” by Hawks - I have their 1981 s/t album that I
converted to digital and my file of this song runs 3:38. I’m guessing (hoping) I put a second or so of silence on the fade so that puts it pretty close to the 3:36 timing listed above. The 45 postings on discogs list a time of 3:39 on both the promo and commercially released 45s. I don’t have a copy of the 45 so I can’t verify the actual timing, but I would almost think the LP and 45 versions are the same (I most certainly could be wrong, though). That being said, I don’t believe this is on cd anywhere. There was a cd released in 2003 by the independently run Not Lame power pop label but this song was a demo version running 3:18 (apparently the version they used to get them signed to Columbia). Hawks did have “It’s Alright, It’s O.K.” released on Volume 3 of the “Heard It On The Radio” series on Renaissance. Too bad their s/t album hasn’t seen a proper release on cd anywhere. |

Here is what I find and what is still missing: 230 Dann Rogers - Looks Like Love Again 2:35 There is a digital version of this on Qobuz (sounds horrible) that runs 7 seconds short and fades Wayyyy to early. Actual running time of the 45/LP is 2:37. The dub I have is 2 seconds short on the fade out. 275 Doolittle Band - Who Were You Thinkin' Of 2:43 Not on CD. Not available digitally either. 287 Little River Band - It's Not A Wonder [LIVE] 3:46 The 45 version can be made off the LP version, which is available digitally. The 4:05 45 version of "Fool for Your Loving" by Whitesnake
just removes the synth intro of the LP version, at least from what I hear using the vinyl dub in the 1980 archive as reference. The LP version runs about 4:16. Removing the 10 second synth intro brings it to about 4:06. ------------- Jason Bellenger Byron Center, Michigan, USA |

above and included in the 2/1 Frankie Valli is the word/ Heaven above me Collectors Choice CD from from 2008, is there any difference between LP and single versions? Longer fade maybe? single is 3.34 long vs album 3:42. |

1980 #416 Cretones 'Real Love' was released on Varese Serabande 302 067 455 8 (2016). States on the
booklet 3:12. Don't know if the promo is a different mix. My 45 RPM stock copy says 3:15 and is actually 3:11. -Bill. |

There is a digital version of this on Qobuz (sounds horrible)> I spoke to Dann Rogers about this song before he ever self-released this version that you're now finding on digital sites. He said he went to the exact spot where the master tape was supposedly stored, but it was no longer there. His theory is that Kenny Rogers (his cousin) purposely had this tape removed from its location, as it was stored in a studio that Kenny Rogers used. I can't say if that's true or not but he did say that Kenny tried to sabotage his cousin's career. Kenny felt Dann's voice was too close to his (it does almost sound the same!) and apparently did some stuff to make sure "Looks Like Love Again" didn't become a hit. So that's why you'll never find a master tape version of this song on CD. My cleaned vinyl version I did is better than what's out there. I wish I knew what Dann's version would sound like the one time I spoke to him - I would have just given him a copy to use - because he was talking about releasing his album from his owne cleaned-up album. |

Not on CD or digital. > What album is this from? Humperdinck now owns his 5 albums from '76 to '80 (I think), and has no interest in releasing them. But I bought them on CDs on ebay years ago, not knowing they'd be bootlegs. But they sound cleaned up pretty well. So there might be a decent source on there. It's certainly better than nothing. |
