Apparently the true 45 version (timing in at 2:56) is not on CD domestically. Anyone know if it is available at the correct time anywhere?

I found it, it is called the mono alternate fade, it is one of extra tracks on Qobuz of It's Our Thing. Still a great song...

The 23 disc European set, The RCA Victor & T-Neck Album
Masters (1959-1983)
, was only issued digitally in North
America. In addition to the 'mono alternate fade' (ie.
single version) of "It's Your Thing", it also has "Love The
One You're With" in mono and the radio edit of "Fight The
Power" (with all the 'bulls***s' bleeped).

An email thread has revealed that someone has the LP "It's Our Thing" with
the song running the same (longer) length as the 45. Pat's database refers to
only a 2:44 timing for the LP, and a YouTube post which certainly seems like it
is ripped from the vinyl LP plays 2:44. Perhaps there was more than one issue
of the LP? We've seen that for 45s, so....

If I heard the vinyl rip correctly, the version on vinyl runs to the same point in the song as Rhino's Billboard Top R&B Hits 1969 CD, but runs a little faster. Billboard runs 2:49.

Both of those are about 9 beats shorter than the 45.

The Billboard CD (and the vinyl dub) both have about 2 beats after the high-pitched "woo".

The 45 has about 10 or 11 beats after the "woo".

The extra length of the 45 is at the very tail of the fade, down at -30 dB. It's not all that significant for daily listening, or for using on the air, etc.

For my go-to digital files, I actually picked the track off of Rhino's Billboard Top R&B Hits 1969 but matched the pitch to what appears on Sony's
Ultimate Isley Brothers CD.

One thing that is confounding about finding a good
sounding stereo version of "It's Your Thing" is that some
dubs contain undecoded Dolby (or should I say incorrectly
decoded Dolby) which seems to artifically enhance
clicking of then 16-year-old Ernie Isley's bass intro
which was not really present on the 1969 LP and single
versions.

Most-accurate sounding dub I've heard so far is from 'RCA
& T-Neck Album Masters' sent out by forum member
'cristianmdp'. Thank you, Cristian!

Does anyone out there also hear what I hear, or can offer
any additional comment?

Thanks!

Andy

Andy - I do hear what you've noted.

Virtually all the CD versions I've encountered have the clicking in the left channel on the intro, except The RCA Victor & T-Neck Album Masters (1959-1983). Weird!

I don't know what caused it, though; I'm no expert when it comes to Dolby issues.

FYI, The RCA Victor & T-Neck Album Masters (1959-1983) runs 1.85% faster than Billboard Top R&B Hits 1969, and runs out to the exact same point in the song.
