The AC Edit from the promo 45 cannot be recreated from other versions. The intro from 0:07 to the first chorus vocal is a totally different mix, omitting the "woo!" and spoken-word intro. There are some minor percussion differences, as well.
There are mastering differences, too. Based on the mastering on Forever '80s, the AC Edit may have wider stereo, with the center moved slightly right. The AC intro also sounds like it was mixed with louder reverb, although I think what really happened is the album version was just subjected to noise reduction via a dynamic range expander or noise gate, whereas the AC intro wasn't.
Meanwhile, much like the commercial 45s, the promo CD (PRO-CD-2976) has a "Single Edit" listed as 4:00, actual duration 4:00.95. This is not the promo AC edit. In fact, assuming the rip I have is real, this so-called Single Edit is identical to the album version on In Effect Mode, with two minor exceptions:
• The Single Edit's first beat is quickly faded in and thus sounds softened, whereas on the album version it's at full volume and has more impact.
• The album version's fade begins sooner (at about 3:41), and is done 1½ sec. earlier (so the total duration is 3:59.47)... so the Single Edit is actually very slightly longer than the album version. (The AC Edit is the same way.)
So now I have to wonder if the 45s do indeed play this slightly different "Single Edit". This would mean they are not quite the same as the album version, although I'm not sure it qualifies as a unique version in Pat's database.

I agree that the AC Edit is a unique mix. It has different reverb on the drums for sure. Thankfully this version can be found on the Forever 80s disc, as well as Billboard Top R&B Hits 1988.
You're also correct that the Single Edit on the promo CD slightly fades in the first drum beat vs. the full-length CD and runs a couple seconds longer. I don't feel this is noteworthy for database purposes, as Pat doesn't typically distinguish run time differences of only 1.5 seconds.
