With the recent release of the deluxe edition of "Olivia
Newton-John's Greatest Hits" (RIP ON-J), I wondered again
how one should organize albums when the artist's name is
part of the title. The album spine for Olivia's (and many
others) just shows the album's name such as "Anne Murray's
Greatest Hits." Should this then be alphabetized as "Anne
Murray's Greatest Hits" or just as "Greatest Hits" since
the "Anne Murray's" is there to identify the artist, not
the album title? Some artists like Barbra Streisand
feature the artist name on the spine and repeat it as part
of the album title, "Barbra Streisand's Greatest Hits
Volume 2." To me, Babs' name is definitely part of the
title. But, are Anne's and Olivia's?

I solved that problem with removable stickers (numbered by
me) and a database.
At some point it was crazy to make room for each new item I
had to put in the correct place. I had to move hundreds of
CDs to put one of them in the right place. No way to keep
on doing that when you have hundreds (literally).
Back to your point, I'd choose to ignore the artist's name
as part of its title and single consider "Greatest Hits" as
the album's name (at least to put it in alphabetical order
if I needed to do that).

I put artist compilations before the main albums, and the albums themselves are arranged by original release date. As an example, if I go to the Bryan Adams section, I the have the discs in this order:

So Far So Good
Anthology
You Want It, You Got It
Cuts Like A Knife
Reckless
Into The Fire
Waking Up The Neighbours

Great method Aaron. Makes things easier to find.

Favorite two expressions to live by on this board: "You can't download vinyl" and "Not everything is available on CD."
