I just noticed that there is a promo vinyl on Discogs for
this track which lists the time as 3:24. This is @ 30
seconds shorter than the other versions of this track on
vinyl and I was wondering if anyone has this. It also has
one of those pesky labels that states Time:3:24 Intro:0:19
so it may be the same as all the others. Any info would
help!

I wouldn't put too much stock into running times on
labels, as the commercial 45 is listed as running 3:59,
but actually runs closer to 4:10.
That said, the 45/Single Version has an intro of :11, so
if the promo's 19 second intro is true, it's obviously
not
exactly the same as the commercial 45.
By the way, I know there's some talking on the song
before the singing starts, so I wonder if there was ever
a promo released without it? Or maybe some stations just
edited it out themselves? I only heard this song a few
times on the radio back then (which may explain its #59
Pop Chart Peak) and I'm not sure if I remember hearing
the talking before the singing.

I might have a copy of it. I'll take a look.

Looks like I have a different promo 45 with the same printed 3:59 time as the stock 45. I ordered a copy of the shorter one, so we'll see what it sounds like upon arrival.

The short promo 45 finally arrived, and it's an edit of the longer stock 45 version. Starting with the stock 45 version, you'll remove 0:12 to 0:35 and 3:12 to 3:35. The edits are both on the downbeat (kick drum). If you start with the copy on MCA Hits Sampler Vol 4, you'll also need to pitch the CD down (slower) by 0.4%.

Looks like the re-creation will run a little under 3:23. That's what's on the "3:24" 45?

Correct, and it will run a little over 3:23 once you pitch the CD down by 0.4%.

Looks like that's the case with the short edit. Mystery
solved! Have to say it's a little strange (for any number
of reasons) that they left one round of the "Don't slap
me" riff in the edit after dumping most of it. Thanks
