I'm at a loss on this track that didn't even make the pop charts in 1982 but has become a beloved favorite of fans of the band.

The labels for the promos released in the United States list https://www.discogs.com/release/1618157-Roxy-Music-More-Than-This - 4:31 and https://www.discogs.com/release/8433338-Roxy-Music-More-Than-This - 3:35 . The 4:31 length is close to the LP length, so I assume that's what's on it... but the 3:35 length?

From various sources, I have the following lengths:

4:06 -- (labeled "dub of vinyl 45," possibly USA)
4:06 -- Greatest Hits of the 80s, CD 8
4:09 -- Now The Millennium Series 1982 CD 2
4:15 -- (labeled "New Zealand 45 length remix")
4:19 -- Classic Soft Rock Vol. 8 Ordinary World
4:30 -- Avalon
4:30 -- The Collection
4:33 -- (labeled "UK 45 remix")
4:35 -- (labeled "18 seconds longer than New Zealand 45 remix")

Can any one help me sort these out... and can anyone tell me the REAL time of the short USA promo 7" single, and if it can be made from any of these?

What will clue me in to an LP edit vs. a remix, and is there more than one remix that perhaps has been edited to different lengths?

Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide!

i have the 4:18 on my hard drive and would love a copy of
the 3:35 edit once you figure out the edits.

This 45 appears to be the same as the LP length -

I haven't found any edits, only early fades.

You're correct that the commercial 7" single appears to be the LP version and length. The label even says, "from the LP..."

However, there were two 7" promos sent to radio stations: the first containing what I believe was the LP version, and the second claiming to be an edit.

I'm further confused as I listen to what claims to be a single "remix" in my library but sounds to my ears like a match to the LP version.

I'm looking forward to somebody clarifying what could be different between the LP version and the alleged remix... if there is any.

As reported by Duane:

In New Zealand (and also in the UK), the 45 version of Roxy Music's "More Than This" was actually a different mix. The most noticeable differences to me are a spooky howl at 0:06 and a chiming sound that starts at 3:22 and repeats regularly through to the end of the song. Neither are in the LP mix. The guitars in the instrumental section towards the end of the song also sound different to me.

I switched the file in my DJ library to the LP length since
it seemed to match that 45.

Re: the UK 45, I went looking for evidence of the different version on YouTube.

Confirmed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hz8wgBs-LJ0
Confirmed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpYsh9G4E60
Confirmed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0X1NHABvH4

Contradicted at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvfG7Y59zIk but I can't see the label (though it is green like the others, and the guy seems to be in Wales).

Maybe there's more than one pressing?

Anyway, this version seems to be on CD as part of the Complete Studio Recordings (EU/JP box set), but even there, it's sourced from an MP3 of a vinyl transfer.

Question: Does any member have the version with a duration
of 3:35 in flac or waw? to be able to compare with the LP
version and the 45 and remix versions, thank you

I have a version labeled as "Edit" from Mark M's collection.

It's an early fade of the LP version/mix. The fade is 30 beats long, starting on the downbeat after the 2-snare drum fill at 3:24, and running to about 3:37.

No guarantees that it's really what's on the 3:35 single, but it's good starting place.
