Pat:

In the 10th edition, you list all CD appearances of Eddy Grant's "Romancing the Stone" with the comment: (LP version). I'm in the process of editing the LP to match the commercial 45. When I compared the two side-by-side, I found the 45 to only be an early fade of the LP. I don't see or hear any edits. Now, I should mention that the single I'm using did not actually come from a vinyl 45 source, but rather a copy Aaron made for me on mp3 that came directly off his commercial 12" single. Track 3 on the 12" runs 3:29. Aaron says he's 100% positive this is the same as the commercial 45.

Unless someone can point out where the LP was edited to come up with the 45, I'd say the comments for "Romancing the Stone" in the 10th edition should read: (LP length), not (LP version).

the 45 version is just an early fade of the cd/lp version

I have another "club DJ" question.

The U.S. 12" of Romancing The Stone has the 3:30 version on side A, followed by an "edit" that's actually labeled as running longer (4:56).

The B side, however, has a 9+ minute version, which is the version I would expect a club DJ to spin. (It appears this was the A side of the single in other countries.)

Was the club DJ likely to play the super-short version on A, or did they flip it over to get the extended version? I can only assume the record company didn't expect this to be a club hit, perhaps...

Did anybody spin this track in the clubs back in the day, or hear it at the local club on a Friday or Saturday night?

Hi Gene,

In the clubs I worked I played the 9:05 side of AS 1853.
But not too many times. I didn't love the record, and
nobody was screaming for it (unlike "Electric Avenue" which
was huge even before local radio play).

I prefer Stone to Electric Ave but very few others do. I do wonder had it be used in the Film if it would have been more successful...

The long version is a quick 9 minutes for me.

Thanks for all the replies! This is great info. Looks like it was more popular than the charts might have suggested.

Has anybody found the nine minute 12" version on CD or any digital source? I can't seem to find a source from tape for it anywhere.
