The actual commercial 45 run time of Stephen Bishop's "Save It for a Rainy Day" is 3:12. (Thanks once again to Jim for supplying the timing info. The printed record label time is 3:10.) I only mention this because the song's database CD entries (with the exception of the lone rerecording appearance) run from 3:09-3:14

The version on Rhino's Listen To The Music '70s Male Singer Songwriters (1996) doesn't match the versions on Rhino's Best Of Bish (1988) and MCA's On And On (1994).

The version on Listen sounds like an unfinished mix, which lacks the reverb that's on the other versions, and is missing elements like the handclaps from 0:46 to 0:58.

Just to make sure that it's not a 45/LP distinction, can anyone confirm that the LP and 45 are the same and match the versions on Rhino's Best Of Bish (1988) and MCA's On And On (1994)?
There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.

Just listened to the song on 20th Century Masters: The
Millennium Collection
and on Careless.

There's trumpets in the above versions and neither match
On And On either.

Definitely a LP vs. 45 version distinction. 2 different
recordings to me.

"Save It For A Rainy Day" on On And On sounds like
the hit version I remember in 1977.

Good job class -- there is definitely a 45v vs LP v of this song and the comments above are correct. For a listing of all cd's see the database.

I'm impressed that in 2018 there are still LP vs. 45 differences being discovered for a top 25 song from the '70s by the experts. Nice catch Ron.

Yeah, I had the same thought, too, Santi. Amazing that some are just being unearthed now. It makes me wonder how many top 40 hits are left that we haven't discovered a 45 vs. LP difference yet. I'm guessing not many.
