I've been looking for a cd version of the 45 version for
Shannon - Give Me Tonight. Some compilation discs that I
have come across have an edit but it is not the true 45
version. Is anyone aware if the 3:52 edit ever made it
to cd format?

As far as I know, it has never appeared on CD.
The 45 version has a unique intro that came from the 12"
Dub version so the 45 can not be created from any of the
CD versions that are in the database.

It's hard to believe after all of these years that the
true 45 version hasn't made its way to cd. Yes, it is a
unique version that includes part of the dub in the
intro. Years ago I was able to recreate the 45 version
using both the dub and 12" version from my vinyl 12".
It's a tough editing process but I got it as close to
the original 45 as possible.

The 7 inch, which is what you are seeking is available digitally on the extended album on Qobuz Let The Music Play, Track 10.

Unfortunately, Unidisc mislabeled this version on the
"Let The Music Play" album/CD/digital downlood and it is
not the 45 version (at least not the US 45 version).

This is the correct US 45 version with the unique intro:

I was definitely disappointed that the 7" version on the
re-issue of the Let The Music Play Album was not the
true U.S. 45 version.

SMH! A clean vinyl dub is the way to go for now.

What version is on Freestyle Explosion Vol 4 on Thump?
It says 3:52.

The version that is on Freestyle Explosion unfortunately
is not the true U.S. 45 version. (I purchased the cd
years ago hoping for the real 45 edit)   There are
several edits floating around from various cd
compilations that clock in around the same (3:52) which
is misleading as they are not the true U.S. 45 edit.
they are just edits of the 12" version.

For clarification, the single edit found on the expanded Let the Music
Play
is indeed the UK 45 version. I found a video of the actual 45
spinning on Youtube to verify. If anyone is wondering, you could
theoretically edit the Dub Version and the long album version on
the expanded release to recreate the US 45, but unfortunately the EQ
choices made for these two files are pretty disparate and the spliced-on
intro makes itself obvious in the most obnoxious manner. It almost
sounds like the Dub Version on this release was taken from a master
tape while the vocal version could be from vinyl or a higher-generation
tape.
