1979 NO MORE TEARS (ENOUGH IS ENOUGH) released as by BARBRA STREISAND/DONNA SUMMER

The database lists the version on Columbia the '45 version' as opposed to the version on Casablanca as an 'alternate take'. Weren't they both released on 45? Can anyone share any light on this one?

No, the one on Casablanca is an edit of the 12-inch remix version that was done especially for "The Summer Collection." The one and only 45 version is the Columbia version, which is an edit of the Barbra Streisand "Wet" album version.

Yes, i remember clearly at the time, Casablanca had the 12" release, which is remixed with a lot of extra production as i recall....and shortly thereafter included it on her first Greatest Hits 2-LP set "On The Radio".
.....and Columbia had the 45 release, a straight edit of the "Wet" LP Version.
I also recall being disappointed in the 12" version. It was too different from what i was hearing on the radio. WKTU, the disco station in NY at the time, always played the Streisand LP version, the unedited hit version. I hardly ever heard the 12"/Casablanca mix on the radio, except maybe in a weekend mix-show.
So, the way i always saw this one was that as a hit single, it is primarily a Streisand release, with Donna as guest.

I always preferred the 12" Casablanca, or "Donna Summer"
mix and version. The Barbra Streisand mix always seemed
too tame.

I too prefer the 12". For years, it was the only version I had (I had the On The Radio album), and not only was it injected with a booming bass beat, it also felt like an epic recording--not an 'extended' or 'remixed' version, but as if it was the definitive near-12 minute version of the song that was then chopped down, stripped, and edited for all other versions.

I agree The Hits Man! As I was born when it was popular, I can't say which version I remember in it's hayday.

I had only discovered the Casablanca recording several years back when they aired it on former WQSX/Boston. I was blown away by the extra production. Epic, indeed!

I heard the Columbia single on the radio as it was high on
the charts in the fall of 1979. I thought, it was
somebody's marketing plan to put the two together and the
song was just interesting. But,in December of that same
year, I heard the Casablanca 12" version on a Los Angeles
urban station and never looked back.

I just had to pull out the Wet CD last night and listen to the 8 minute version. It is really SO much thinner than the 12" mix. It comes across as a bland wedding band cover of a great club song. And the structure of the 12" version simply builds and builds and peaks like a 12 minute club mix you'd hear in the late 90s (think Deborah Cox).

What I did notice is that there are definitely some alternate vocal takes in that version. Particularly noticeable is when Barbra sings some lines at about the 3 minute mark.

The database was never updated with the info in this thread, i.e.,
that the 4:47 version is not an alternate take, but an edit of the 12"
version (if this is what I get from this thread).

I recently heard an edit on SiriusXM that cuts out the first 90 seconds of the song. I'm sure it's an unofficial edit they created.
