My Warwick 45 of "Wheels" by The String-A-Longs, which is mono, has far less reverb than the only CD I own with this song, Rhino 71602 Rock Instrumental Classics Volume 2: The Sixties (where it appears in stereo along with all other CD appearances of this song). I don't know what LP this song originally appeared on so I can't say if this is a 45/LP difference. But it may be worth looking into since the difference between the 45 and the above CD is quite audible.

My original Warwick Records album is entitled "Pick a Hit" featuring "Wheels" by the String-A-Longs. My copy of the album is mono and does not feature the added reverb heard on Rhino Rock Instrumental Classics Volume 2. So it matches the single. But the record jacket features a lot of ads for Warwick Records "3 Dimensional Stereo" releases, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was a stereo release of this song by Warwick with the extra reverb to add some extra dimension to the song. So the verson on CD could be the "stereo lp version featuring extra reverb".

I have the stereo version of Pick A Hit (Warwick W2036ST) and it features the added reverb, though it's mostly or entirely in the left channel where all the music, except for the brushes, appears. There's nothing in the middle.

A different stereo mix appears on the Original Golden Instrumental Hits (WB WS1725) LP. That one reverses the channels and has similar added reverb, but it decays into the center. Still, that vinyl version has a far better sound than the earlier Warwick LP.

I don't think I have Wheels on a CD for comparison.

i don't know how much i agree with the reverb issue.....but
it can't be determined since we don't have the mono version
on cd to comapre the vinyl 45 to....in my opinion the reverb is just a function of it being in stereo.....the
song is the same as far as instrumentation and in every
other way, except the lone stereo/mono issue....i believe it's just the type of delivery that is the issue.....but,
again, just one man's opinion..

i just did a fold down of the stereo cd version and it
doesn't sound the same as my original post would
indicate.....we'll have to just do a vinyl clean up from
the lp or 45 for the time being...

Thanks for the tip on this Brian! I had a 45 dub in my
library that I can now replace with the digital mono mix.
Both stereo and mono available on that collection on Qobuz.
