what's the actual 45 timing on this one? CDs are all over the map. Same
with the LP timing. |

David, both the listed and actual time for my 1966 commercial 45 is (2:05).

Bringing the second part of David's question back up regarding The Beach Boys' "Barbara Ann", I notice the database CDs with "LP version" comments have run times ranging wildly from 3:05 to 3:23. What is the correct LP run time?

I'm bumping this one back up because there still exists two very different groups of LP run times in the database for the Beach Boys' "Barbara Ann". One group runs in the 3:05-3:07 range, while the others clock in at 3:22-3:23. Am I correct that the parent vinyl LP for "Barbara Ann" is Beach Boys' Party! from 1965? If so, there's no run time consistency among the album's various CD reissues, so does anyone have a vinyl LP copy who can verify the song's length?

My vinyl copy of Beach Boys' Party! has Barbara Ann at 3:05. It's Duophonic Stereo.

Many thanks, Kerry! So I wonder then if the longer 3:22-3:23 LP version database appearances of "Barbara Ann" are actually a previously unreleased extended version/length?

My theory is that someone picked another beginning point for the song from the Beach Boys' Party! vinyl album. The record is recorded live and non-stop between tracks. There is an earlier start point for the song as compared to the single. There is chatter about "bah bah bah Barbara Ann.." If you start it there, it times 3:23. Since all versions appear to use the same recording (the single simply fades early compared to the album) I believe this is the answer as to why there are database differences in the album length.

Ah... I never considered that. That would certainly explain the timing discrepancy between CD sources!

You know you're really older when you think that younger singer Jesse McCartney's related in anyway to former Beatle Paul McCartney.
