Abagon reports the actual commercial 45 run time of Kylie Minogue's "The Loco-Motion" is 3:12, not 3:15 as stated on the record label.

As the above question approaches its fourth birthday... The US 45 is the same as the LP version. The '7" Mix' on Ultimate Kylie is a different version (which may have been the 45 version in other countries, but not in the US or Canada). |

Thanks for sharing this, Paul. I had no idea they were different versions until I just listened to them, and they are very different mixes.

By the time "The Loco-Motion" was released outside the U.S., Kylie's debut album had already been released, so as it was custom at the time, for its single release, "The Loco-Motion" was remixed.
North America was the last territory to release her debut album, "Kylie". Geffen could've include the '7" Mix', aka 'Single Version', on the album and/or single, but purposely chose not to. Geffen clearly indicated this, as they labeled the mix correctly, the 'LP Version'. To confuse matters even more... There are three music videos of "The Loco-Motion", they are essentially the same, but they have been re-edited. That being said, the second version (made for the world outside of Australia and New Zealand, and North America) and third version (made for North America) both use the '7" Mix'. The North American version is the best video. You can definitely make an argument that American audiences are familiar with the '7" Mix'. Whew! Edited by Loveland |

To even *further* confuse things, the song was a hit in 1987 in Australia, in a completely different recording, before she worked with Stock Aitken Waterman!
The song audio is on YouTube, although the video is modern-day. I don't know what the 7" Mix on Ultimate Kylie sounds like, but it could be this 1987 version. |

There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.

It is NOT. That song is called "Locomotion", as opposed to "The Loco-Motion". I didn't mention that because every Kylie fan knows that! Ha ha. :) It was produced by Mike Duffy, a PWL engineer. The U.S. music video utilizes the Single Version, but the actual music video has been re-edited. Bottom line: It includes more behind the scenes shots, including the making of the graffiti. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quPgRHqzuB4 This is the international music video, as you can see, it does not include the making of the graffiti at all: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POWsFzSFLCE Edited by Loveland |

I found the videos to be fun watching... all that 80s
hair! But I thought it funny that while there's lots of dancing, no one ever actually does the Loco-Motion in them. MM |

Does anybody know the history behind the "12-inch Master" version of The Loco-Motion? It seems to have been released for the first time on iTunes in 2009 even though it very much sounds like it was mixed at the time of the release of the U.S. single in 1988.
In the late '80s, not including the original Australian version (titled "Locomotion"), there seems to have only been two extended mix releases: The "Kohaku Mix", mixed By Dave Ford & Mixmaster Pete Hammond, running approximately 5:55 and The "Sankie Mix", mixed By the Extra Beat Boys, running approximately 6:35 You can hear this "12 inch Master" here |
