Thanks, Aaron. Somehow I missed that post (which I eventually found).
So it seems to get the right-sounding version, I'll have to nab the Outlandos D'Amour version (then speed it up and fade it about (:04) seconds early to get the 45). |

On the other hand, maybe not. Last night I downloaded the Outlandos D'Amour version and the same mastering issue was present (song starts slow and then pitches up to the proper speed at around (0:03)).
Unless this is another case (like the situation of "Dirty White Boy" I detailed earlier) where the actual CD version doesn't match the downloadable version. Pat, you mentioned having the Outlandos D'Amour CD. Does that CD have that mastering error, or is it in pitch throughout? Edited by sriv94 |

According to the database, the original CD does not have this problem...nor does later issues of The Classics (remastered version).

and I don't believe my original copy of "Every Breath You Take/The Singles" (purchased 1990) has the problem either, as per Pat's database.

I finally got to listen to my copy, a BMG Music Club issue of unknown vintage, and it too does not have the problem. |

Revisiting this topic, was it a case of:
1) Getting the proper version and fading :04 early? 2) Or, were there edits of where Sting sings Roxanne and simply 2 were edited out... |

I've never been able to detect any edits. This is just a case of the 45 speed being faster, and the 45 faded a little earlier than the LP. As far as getting the right version, there is not a "wrong" version, but there are some CDs with that mastering error where the tape drags at the beginning.
