Thought this might be of particular interest to the 45 version collectors... There is a new various artist CD release out now containing several 45 versions and lengths available on a domestic disc for the first time. The CD is called Chart Toppers (70-90) on BMG Music Entertainment Custom Marketing Group 27426 and contains the 45 versions/lengths of Eddie Money's "Walk on Water", Clarence Clemons and Jackson Browne's "You're a Friend of Mine", Scandal featuring Patty Smyth's "The Warrior", and Philip Bailey with Phil Collins' "Easy Lover". I know some of us have already re-created the correct 45 versions of these songs on editing software, but I thought I'd pass this on to folks who don't yet have them. This CD also contains some hard-to-find DJ edits and lengths as well, such as: Jon B. featuring Babyface's "Someone to Love" and Sophie B. Hawkins' "Damn! I Wish I Was Your Lover".
It's good to see Sony finally giving some long overdue attention to single and DJ edits! |

Oh, by the way... For anyone looking to seek out a copy of the new Chart Toppers (70-90) CD set described above, make sure the catalog number is 27426! In 2001, Sony issued a very, very similar 3-CD compilation under catalog number 51366 called Chart Toppers that has an almost identical track listing. However, the versions used on that set are the usual LP versions, songs faded early, etc.! If you don't pay attention to the catalog numbers, you might not end up with the versions you want.

If i'm not mistaken, the 45 versions of Scandal's "The Warrior" and Philip Bailey's "Easy Lover" are the same as the LP versions. My original Columbia 45s match them.

I think you are mistaken. Easy Lover fades out earlier than the LP, and I believe The Warrior has an edit within it. Unless this is another case of different 45 pressings having different versions. |

Brian, you are correct. "Easy Lover" is an early fade, to my knowledge. "The Warrior" has two quick edits within the guitar solo. |

Aaron and Brian are correct. The "Easy Lover" 45 is an early fade of the LP length. The 45 version of "The Warrior" is an edit of the LP version.

If anyone is wondering where to buy this CD set, I got mine at Circuit City (is that a national chain???) for $9.99. It comes in a two-disc digipack, not a jewel case.

Grant timed his 45 of "Easy Lover" (posting it in a separate thread) and it is the same running time as all the rest of the 45s.
You know, I never grow tired of that phrase. :D Edited by Brian W. |
