Although the database has a note that the 45 runs (4:18), it does not note that all CDs contain the LP version.
Thanks to Edtop40, we can conclude that the 45 is not just an early fade of the LP version. There is one edit just past the three minute mark that removes six seconds or so. |

my commercial 45 issued as arista 0633 states the run time on the label as 3:58 but actually runs 4:13 and is an edit of the full length 4:39 cd/lp version, and a quick fade to run 4:13......

I always wondered exactly what few seconds were cut ... I never really noticed anything different on the radio. And I went to the long version, after the 3 minute point, and figured out the six seconds that were removed - which were "make her want to stay". This line only happens once apparently, not twice, on the single version. Interesting. I never really knew until now.

This is a clever edit; it really only worked for me if I made the edit ON the word "make." Before or after and it was a mess.
...They were pretty good with a razor blade and some splicing tape back in 1981! |

The edit here is easy enough. Using the Essential Barry Manilow, I have it as
follows: Delete 3:13.430 to 3:19.691 But does anybody know where the fade starts? I don't have the actual 45 to guide me. |

I started my fade around (4:02), during the high piano part after the vocals stop.
