My commercial 45, which is stereo, has a listed time of (2:34), but an actual time of (2:43).

I have just reviewed my promo 45 for this. The stereo side of it has exactly the same details as my commercial 45 does (listed 2:34; actual 2:43). But the promo 45's mono side is different, with a listed time of (2:45), but an actual time of (2:34). Seems like the 1971 Columbia "label prep person" may have transposed some of the stereo and mono version's timing details here.

While the "A" side is IMHO a mediocre cover of a Joe South song, the "B" side is a real classic. "The Turkey". So bad it's great!!

I really like the Raiders' remake of "Bird Of A Feather".

I especially like the fake (or is it real?!) 'Love Generation' background vox.

I believe that song was recorded as a Mark Lindsay solo release but after Indian Reservation they slapped the Raiders name on it.

Jim:

Just wanted to clarify the mono side of your "Birds of a Feather" DJ 45... I believe you meant to say that the actual run time is 2:34, while the printed time is 2:45, correct?

That's interesting, Bill! Were there any early promo 45's for Birds Of A Feather released with just mark Lindsay's name on it? Certainly would be collector's items if there were!

No I think it was just in the can for an upcoming Lindsay project but they needed a Raiders follow up to Indian Reservation. Unless Mark was going to record it as a solo track, changed his mind and then recorded it as the Raiders. I'm not sure which. I just seem to remember it was going to be a Lindsay track and was switched. I don't believe it was ever released as just Mark Lindsay.

By that point in time weren't the Raiders pretty much Mark Lindsay, maybe Freddy Weller, & L.A.'s best studio musicians?

(Kind of an update on the period where 'Paul Revere & the Raiders' were pretty much Mark Lindsay, [the late] Terry Melcher & studio musicians.)

Correct, Todd! Thanks for the pickup (post fatigue/old age!) I've corrected my original post.
