The database contains running times of between 5:57 and 6:03 (not including the slow versions), with the 45 timing indicated as 5:53. I have a version where the end fades on the guitar at about 6:00, while another has the sound effects of the next track (from "Greatest Hits") over it beginning at about 5:51.

How did the original 45 and LP end, and how long did they actually run? Whitburn's Pop Aunnual timing is 5:58.

At any rate, database should be updated to refect the conclusions reached.

I can't help on dc1's question, but while we're at it, I'm curious about the
promo (4:05ish) edit. I remember someone mentioned picking the promo
up recently. Can anyone describe the edits?   I made one for my station,
based on some guesswork, but I'd like to know how Epic did it.

Thanks - Eric

Is it possible the version from the Don't Look Back CD from 1978 would be the same length as the original stock 45? Haven't looked in the database, but that's a guess.

My U.S. commercial 45 has a printed run time of 5:53 but actually runs 6:00.

A while ago, I purchased the track from the Don't Look Back CD from iTunes and it is a couple of seconds shorter due to the fade-out being truncated. I don't have the full Don't Look Back LP/CD, so I don't know if the sound effect during the fade-out bleeds into the next track. It is audible near the end of the fade-out of the 45, but the 45 has a clean fade-out (not truncated).

The only physical CD I have on which the song appears is the Rock America CD. To my ears (and stopwatch) this version is identical to the 45 (same length, speed, and fade-out.)

There's no break on the LP. The audio continues across the band during the segue between the fade and the sound effect, so there's no exact point at which the tracks change.
