My commercial 45 (Wing 877436-7, 1990) is identical on both sides (except for a printed "Side 1" and "Side 2" on the label), with a printed and actual run time of 4:33 and a designation of "Edit".
Here are instructions for creating the edit from the LP version. I got my LP version on PGD Presents Sound Savers Volume 2 (Polygram promo SACD-516, 1992), and based on my experience with these promo samplers, I'm 99% sure it's digitally identical to the version on The Revival, which I don't have. Remove the spoken intro from 0:00.0-0:08.4. Edit at the first beat. Keep the 28 beats from 0:08.4-0:22.8. Edit on a downbeat. Remove the 16 beats from 0:22.8-0:31.0. Keep the 500 beats from 0:31.0-4:47.0. End on a downbeat, and put a 64-beat fade from 4:14.2-4:47.0. That's right, the fade is 33 seconds long. Your mixdown will have an edit at 0:14.4 and will run 4:30.4, with a 64-beat fade from 3:57.6-4:30.4. |

here is one of those examples, when the single format was changing, in this instance in 1990 from 45's to cassingles, the two formats had different versions......the commercial 45 version contained the edit version running 4:33 while the cassingle version had some bizarre remix version on it.....i'm not home now but when i get there i will post the info....the first track on the cassingle i believe ran like 6 minutes....

Other than the 4-track promo CD (CDP 267), does anyone have a different promo CD with a short remixed version? Discogs claims there is a 1-track Canadian promo with a 4:19 Ben Liebrand Remix version. I'm skeptical that this is actually a Canadian promo CD, though. The catalog number is CDP 435, and I cannot see anywere on the disc that says anything about Canada.
I also see a video on YouTube that has a near 6-minute edit of the "Extended Version" (which I believe is remixed by Ben Liebrand). Basically, I'm trying to make a case that a short "Extended Version" (aka "Ben Liebrand Mix") was issued on promo CD and received some US airplay when the song was a hit. The above is my only proof, though. |

FWIW, Gregory Cooper's 1998 book, "Collectible Compact Disc Price Guide 2", lists CDP 267 for "Feels Good", but not CDP 435; however, the listings in the book are (quite understandably) incomplete. I agree that the listing you found for CDP 435 on Discogs sounds like it may actually be of U.S. origin (or likely has a U.S. equivalent)... |

Aaron, I only own remember getting in to the station the CDP 267 promo CD single in 1990. This promo features a fancy, jewel-caseless, deluxe fold-out deisgn that not many 1990 promos received, indicating the song was a major priority for the label. Just in case this promo's full details may be of interest to anyone, here they are:
Tony! Toni! Tone!-"Feels Good" (CDP 267) 1-(Edit) (listed & actual 4:33) 2-(LP Version) (listed 4:56; actual 4:55) 3-(12" Party Mix) (listed 8:30; actual 8:29) 4-(Extended Version) (listed 6:56; actual 6:58) |

Thanks, Gregg and Jim. I do own a copy of the elaborately-packaged CDP 267. Jim, just curious, did fancy packaging ever pursuade you to pay more attention to a particular record? Another one that comes to mind is En Vogue's "My Lovin'..." 1st-issued promo. It also has the elaborate, deluxe fold-out design. "Vision Of Love" has fancy packaging, too.

Yes it did, Aaron, simply because I knew that song would likely be the first one mentioned by that label's record rep that week. Labels didn't opt for the "deluxe-packaging-for-attention" tactic all that often, so when they did, you knew they would follow up on it. As for Mariah Carey's "Vision Of Love", I clearly remember saying to myself in 1990 when it came in, "I have no idea who in the heck Mariah Carey is, but if Columbia has gone to all this expense for an unknown artist, she must either be the 'Next Whitney', or she's sleeping with the president of the label!" Well, not quite, but it turned out that veteran, high-level Columbia exec Tommy Mottola signed her to the label, and, sure enough, he was gettin' some, they were a long-time item, and were eventually married for a time, from 1993-1998. I judge no one, however, and she's obviously a huge talent.

my commercial 45 issued as wing 877436 states the version as "edit" with a stated run time of 4:33 and actually does run that length......ironically, my commercial cassingle with the same label & catalog number wing 877436 contains the below tracks
side a 1-feels good (12" party mix) side b excepts from the revial 1-oakland stroke, it never rains (in southern california), and the blues. 2-feels good (instrumental version) there are No listed run times on the cardborad sleeve, but on the cassingles face it states side a 1-feels good (12" party mix) (8:30) side b special previews from the new lp "the revival" 1-oakland stroke (0:33), it never rains (in southern california) (0:30), and the blues (0:33). 2-feels good (instrumental version) (5:20) |
