This is an easy edit of the LP version on Tracy Chapman (Elektra 9 60774-2, 1988, runs 4:56) to match the 45 (Elektra 69412, printed 4:26, actual 4:27).

Keep 0:00.0-3:52.7 of the LP version.
Edit on downbeat in middle of soft passage - 8 beats between end of word "driving" and beginning of chorus.
Remove the 52 beats from 3:52.7-4:22.3.
Keep 4:22.3-4:56.8 (end) of LP version.

Great song. Funny you mention this tune, Ron, because it's "Fast Car" that was how I found my way here in the first place. I had posted on another completely unrelated board (one more for radio professionals and radiophiles) about where one could possibly get or know how to do the edit of "Fast Car." A member of this forum saw the post and E-mailed me a link to this place (someone else wound up E-mailing me an MP3 of the edit, so I wound up not needing to post here about it).

So you have him to blame for me. :) And I'm enjoying being here.

Glad you're here!

I agree that this is a terrific song. I was floored when my station got in the Elektra promo 12", but I never thought it would actually catch on on pop radio. It still sounds out of place among Whitney Houston, Aerosmith, George Michael, Michael Jackson and the other '88 hits, but in a good way.
