For those of you wanting the 45 version of "Holding Out For A Hero" by Bonnie Tyler, I just found it on the soundtrack to "Bandits" Columbia 86180. The time stated on both the commercial and dj 45's is (4:29) but the actual running time is (4:40).

Can the 45 version be edited down from the LP?

Yes, it definitely can be. I don't know the exact edit points, though, off the top of my head. If I get some time, I'll try to go back and figure out where the edits are.

Okay, so this song's original parent album was of course the O.S.T. to Footloose, released in January of 1984 - and indeed, Pat already has both the original pressing of that CD on Columbia 39242 listed in the on-line database, as well as the "15th Anniversary Edition" on Columbia/Legacy 65781. However, as I recently pointed out in a couple of other cases (James Brown, E.U.), the record label elected to include "Holding Out for a Hero" on Bonnie Tyler's next studio album that followed the Footloose soundtrack, and I see that album is NOT currently listed in the db. In this case, I'm referring to Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fire, released on Columbia CK 40312 in April of 1986 (yes, a full TWO YEARS after the song was a hit!), where it is track 9. I have the CD myself, so if Pat wishes to add it immediately, I can report that "Holding Out for a Hero" has an actual time of (5:48). Unlike the hits by James Brown and E.U., though, as far as I can tell, this is NOT a new or previously-unreleased version/mix of the song - it is merely the same "LP version" that first appeared on the Footloose soundtrack. This CD is long out-of-print, and the U.S. pressings are somewhat tough to find today, but I see there are currently about a half-dozen used copies listed on eBay, w/ these two being the cheapest: BONNIE TYLER - "Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fire" (U.S. CD) and BONNIE TYLER - "Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fire" (U.S. CD)

Also, it appears that you never transferred your own info above to this song's listing in the db, Pat... :-)

db now currently states:

1984 HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO (dj copies of this 45 run (4:40) not (4:29) as stated on the record label)

Not to nitpick, Pat, but you said the above info applies to COMMERCIAL copies, too, right??? Thanks for all of the additions/corrections to the db lately...
