The database notes there is an LP version and a 45 version of this song, and it looks like the original LP version on CD on Divine Miss M was a mono mix. The remastered Divine Miss M is stereo but is still noted as the LP version in the database.

So here's the question:

My DJ 45 (2:32 on the label but times out to 2:17 on both the mono and stereo side) features hand claps on the mono side during the intro. Was that one of the features of the original mono LP mix? The stock 45? Or only on the promo 45?

The stereo side of the DJ 45 does not feature the handclaps.

Let me dovetail Bill's question with one of my own: did the LP version have like a "fanfare" kind of introduction, before it launches into Barry Manilow's swinging arrangement?

More questions, no answers...

Wasn't the orginal album version produced by (the late) Joel Dorn, and the single version a totally new recording produced by Manilow?

Both the mono and stereo side of the DJ 45 say produced and conducted by Barry Manilow.

Bill, my commercial 45 is stereo, states (2:32) but runs (2:16). The mono version on the "Divine Miss M" cd does not feature hand claps on the introduction nor does the commercial 45 so it seems to be exclusive to the mono dj version.

The production credit on the LP version goes to Joel Dorn and to Barry Manilow on the commercial 45.   And to answer doug's question, the horn fanfare is found on both the LP and 45 but it is not the same fanfare.

There is a deluxe two disc Rhino CD that is slated to be released in Oct. which includes the original Divine Miss M album plus bonus tracks. One of those bonus tracks is labeled single version for this song. Will it be in mono or stereo plus will it truly be the single version? Too early to answer, but stay tuned for more.

The "single version" (disc 2, track 2) on the 2016 Rhino 2-CD Divine Miss M Deluxe matches the stereo US commercial 45/stereo DJ 45 version. Actual time is 2:16. So the US mono DJ 45 version with the handclaps remains AWOL on CD.

The mono track 10 on disc 1 is the LP version. Actual length is 2:23.
