The vast majority of CDs out there use the LP version of the song.
I have the LP version on:
Keep the a cappella intro and the first 4 beats of instrumentation from 0:00.0-0:22.7. Edit on the first bass drum beat after the cymbal fill. Remove the 16 beats from 0:22.7-0:31.9. Keep 0:31.9-3:19.0. Edit on the snare drum after the word "loser" - this drum hit has no vocals following it and has a small guitar riff following it. Remove the 16 beats from 3:19.0-3:27.7. Keep the 35 beats from 3:27.7-3:46.5. This is well into the LP version fade. Put a 16-beat fade starting on the downbeat at 3:38.0 to 3:46.5. Your mixdown will run 3:29 and will have edits at 0:22.7 and 3:09.9. And FYI, the remastered Greatest Hits CD I refer to above has 18 tracks, and is quite rare. For the three tracks from the 1981 Time Exposure album, the GH CD includes three early, previously-unreleased mixes. "Take It Easy On Me" has another member of the band singing lead, "The Night Owls" has an extra overdubbed heavy-metal-like guitar line over most of the song, and "Man On Your Mind" has accenting horns over the choruses and some of the verses. All three are really pretty jarring if you're used to hearing the hit versions, and provide a nice insight on how producer George Martin got to the finished versions. The story I heard is that LRB stipulated that their compilations couldn't include unreleased content or something to that effect, and that the 18-track GH CD was quickly recalled. The matrix number is "724 352191123RE1". Edited by crapfromthepast |
