The actual commercial 45 run time of Ambrosia's "How Much I Feel" is 4:44. (Thanks to Jim for providing the timing info. The printed record label time is 4:46.) I only post this because database CDs containing this song run 4:41-4:46.

In a recent e-mail conversation with my good friend Abagon, he informed me "How Much I Feel" has an actual run time of 4:40 on his Japanese pressing of Ambrosia's Life Beyond L.A. vinyl LP. This is :04 shorter in length than the U.S. commercial 45.
That said, does anyone have a U.S. vinyl LP pressing of Life Beyond L.A. who can verify the run time of "How Much I Feel"? |

Todd, the track on my vinyl U.S. pressing of Life Beyond L.A. (WB 3135) runs an actual 4:43. The label's printed time is 4:45.

Thanks very much, Yah Shure! Looks like the difference in length between the 45 and LP isn't significant after all.

Thank you very much, Yah Shure and Todd! I'm glad I've known the US LP's actual running time.

I see on ebay that the promotional 45 had a mono and stereo side but no
edit of a 4:45 song. |

Which is precisely why there are no details of a shorter, DJ 45 edit included
anywhere in the history of this song's thread! :) |

I tried to edit this once, because I had to fit a certain
number of songs in limited time, but I gave up. Nothing worked well, maybe they felt the same way when they were putting it on a single. |

Hey, not so fast, jimct! :-) Your comment above implies that you've already uncovered every promo/dj version that exists for all top 40 hits from the '70s & '80s. (I'm paraphrasing, but I know you basically said that about the '80s over in another thread not too long ago.) Well, I don't know about Ambrosia's "How Much I Feel", but I can tell you that I recently discovered a U.S. dj-only version of a top 10 hit from 1985 that I know you must not yet have among your extremely in-depth collection of promo 45s. :-) I say that because it's never been mentioned in either of the two threads dedicated to that song here on Pat's board, nor is this unique version mentioned in Pat's current notes for the song in the db! (And as I've said here many times over the years, I don't even collect 45s, for the most part - so yes, there are still more dj-only versions to be uncovered from the '80s, anyway.) Details - including links to photos of this apparently rare U.S. promo 45 - coming to the board shortly... :-) |

Go for it, Gregg! I've also said on multiple occasions that no one person
can know everything. Just because you think I implied something, that doesn't mean I actually did. Statements made are misinterpreted by others all the time. (Although I honestly can't remember the last time a new 80's promo 45 version for a db song has been un-earthed on here. It's gotta be 3-4 years now, at the very least.) I never made any such statement about the 70's, however. You paraphrased incorrectly. If you recall, I just discovered/reported on that 1977 "Disco Lucy" DJ 45 short v myself last month, remember? My Ambrosia statement applied to that particular song only. I do very much look forward to your alleged new 80's find, however. Yeah, our station did get 99% + of Top 40 promo product back in the day. And I was there for all of the 1980s. But personnel changes at the labels were frequent. Often, local/regional reps would mail promo 45 copies/items out themselves, with a note included, for that "personal touch." If a song came out during such a transition, the new rep wouldn't always know what songs the old rep had hand-mailed out, and to which stations. And sometimes, as with all shipments, a few mass-mailing items did get lost in the mail. It wasn't until the label rep called us later, about that rare song it turned out we didn't have in-house yet, that we'd both realize this, and they'd next-day-air us more copies. And if this happened for a song that either they weren't "working", or wasn't on our radar, we may never have known of it/ever gotten a re-send for it at all. The late 80s "promo 45 to promo CD single" transitional era did hold some surprises, as well. We added "Shattered Dreams" by Johnny Hates Jazz very early on, in 1988. We got in a promo 45, and played it on-air off of a 2-CD Virgin promo sampler, which also featured the 45 version. None of us at the station ever knew that an early promo CD single had been made for it. But, sure enough, Discogs has one listed now, and I hope to find a copy of it someday, even though it appears to include the same version found on the 45 and the sampler, which I still have. If that had included multiple radio-length versions on it, however, that could've been a new find for us here. Edited by jimct |
