My commercial 45 (confirmed as London 9808, is styrene, with deadwax of "DR36987-BW") has a listed time of (2:33), but an actual time of (2:44). This now brings all eight of the current database CDs that include this song to within :02 of the 45's timing.

my commercial 45 issued on the blue swirl label as london
9808 states the run time as 2:33 but actually runs 2:42 and is identical to the 2:42 'singles' box set version.....my run out groove info is 'DR36987-1K'....then further around it has a triangle shape then '59774'....jim, could you re- time your 45 when time permits to see if we actually do have two different pressings.... |

Ed, I didn't respond to your earlier post, since I thought the differences in
our deadwax info already clearly indicated that two different 45 pressings existed. However, I have recently acquired a London 9808 promo 45 for this song. Time-wise, it does happen to exactly match up with my stock 45 copy's details: (2:33 listed; 2:44 actual). The deadwax for my promo copy is "DR- 36987-1N". Neither of my 45 copies have the triangle anywhere in the deadwax. My guess is that the symbol indicates a specific pressing plant (which I suspect our own "Yah Shure" could identify in about 1/10th of one second! :) ) It appears that your 45 copy probably didn't come from the primary London pressing plant, and was "farmed out" elsewhere, although John is surely the expert in such matters...... |

Nah, I just make that stuff up. ;) Monarch Records was very much one of London's primary pressing plants, as it was the one that supplied product to the western half of the country. The delta number (the Greek letter "delta," followed by an identifying set of numbers) is indicative of a Monarch styrene pressing, in addition to the "MR"-in-a-circle deadwax symbol. You were most likely to find London 45 pressings at the time from Columbia Records Terre Haute and Pitman, Monarch and - occasionally - Shelley Products on Long Island (with a backwards "S" in a circle in the deadwax.) As it happens, I have both a DJ 45 *and* a Monarch-pressed stock copy, so we shall see who gets voted off of this episode of Survivor: Vinyl Island. ;) The DJ 45 is a Columbia Terre Haute pressing, with deadwax identical to Jim's copy (along with a "T|" across from the matrix numbers.) I bought the Monarch stock 45 about three years after ATGB had been a hit. The deadwax number is the same as on Ed's copy, save for the last letter: "DR36987-1J", and the delta number is the same as Ed's (59774). The title is printed in the same narrow Columbia Pitman font style as "THE ROLLING STONES" artist credit on both copies, whereas the CTH DJ 45's song title is noticeably wider and far more bold, no doubt fattened up by that Indiana-grown corn. After sending the two 45s to Tribal Council, the votes have been tabulated, and.......... neither Ed nor Jim will be voted off. Both 45s clocked in at 2:44. But wait! Didn't Ed claim his copy ran an actual 2:42? Unless Ed can explain where he hid those final two seconds, Jim will be granted the immunity 45 adapter when the Rolling Stones tribe locks horns with the Marianne Faithfull tribe on the next exciting "As Tears Go By" episode of Survivor: Vinyl Island!
