Just wondering if the 45 is a straight edit of the LP version, or if it's a different mix (or both or neither). Odd for a 1984 song that peaked at #12 in BILLBOARD to only have one CD appearance (that being the original album on which it appeared)--Wolf or EMI-America seemingly didn't want to make it available for compilations.

The 45 is an edit of the LP version; I didn't detect any
mix differences. I don't recall the edit points to
recreate the 45, though.

Agreed that this one has been strangely elusive on CD.
That Peter Wolf CD goes for big bucks on the used market.
The song was quite popular at the time and I heard it on my
local radio station a lot. I'm afraid it's become one of
those "forgotten" 80s hits due to its lack of availability
in the CD era.

Two of my luckiest ever finds occurred while I was visiting a small, obscure CD store in the Dayton, Ohio area in 1996. I was scouring the bargain bins in the used CD section and happened to pick up a used copy of Peter Wolf's Lights Out and the Breakin' original motion picture soundtrack for an incredible price of $5 each! I'm pretty sure both titles were out-of-print even back then, but I honestly had no idea at the time just how rare these discs were and how much money they were commanding in the used market!

I'm surprised a Peter Wolf best-of compilation has never been released to make his Top 40 singles available on CD again for the first time in many years.

the 45's label states the run time as 3:46 but the 45 actually runs 3:53 and is an edit of the 4:25 full cd/lp version....thanks paul for the great edit you did for me so long ago.........THANKS!!!......this should be noted in the db......

I'm looking to find the correct edit points to recreate the 45 version? Thanks, in advance.

One thing to know on the Peter Wolf, while it was scarce on
CD, the LP is easily findable in near mint for cheap. I see
them often for no more than $4 maximum, $2 often buys nice
copies.
I turn up the good and turn down the bad!

I've been messing around with this one, and could use a little help.

I'm using the physical CD LP version from Peter Wolf's "Lights Out," which I
think is still the only place to find this track at all.

It's got 4 edits to get from the LP version to the 45 version. I have 3 of
them but can't get the 4th.

Assuming I have it in the right place, the first edit runs from about 0:18 to
0:26 of the LP version and cuts part of the introduction. I can't get it
though. There's a cymbal crash at 0:18.01 of the LP version that isn't on
the 45 and I can't find the right spot for the edit. Wherever the right spot
is, the edit is about 8 seconds long.

The other 3 edits are as follows, according to my calculations.

Delete 2:33.188 to 2:37.264 of the LP version. Snare to snare.
Delete 2:50.456 to 2:58.674 of the LP version. Edit right before the guitar.
Delete 3.08.042 to 3:16.236 of the LP version. Snare to snare.

The end result runs 3:55. The 45 version is 3:53 and change. Difference is
probably in that first edit that I can't get, but the fade may also run a hair
longer on the LP version.

Does anybody have that first edit point? I'd be forever in your debt.

I figured it out. Here are the 4 edits I came up with...

Delete 0:17.913 to 0:26.120 of the LP version. Edit right before the
snare/cymbal crash.
Delete 2:33.188 to 2:37.264 of the LP version. Snare to snare.
Delete 2:50.456 to 2:58.674 of the LP version. Edit right before the guitar.
Delete 3.08.042 to 3:16.236 of the LP version. Snare to snare.
