Beatnik Fly - Johnny And The Hurricanes

I don't have the 45, but I just noticed that the first drum crash at the beginning is much more prominent (after the 2nd organ note) on the cd "The Complete Pop Instrumental Hits of the Sixties, Vol. 1 - 1960", compared to the mono versions on the cds "Rock Instrumental Classics - The Sixties" (noisy intro and all) and the Ace import "London American Label - 1960". I can't really discern if there even IS a drum crash on the two mono versions, as it may be buried in the mix. All I really hear are the organ, guitar, and maybe a faint drum/cymbal tapping.

If anyone has the 45, does it have that very prominent drum crash at the beginning? There would be 3 more drum crashes in the intro following the first one.

Thanks, Jim. You told me what I wanted to know. I couldn't distinguish
the first drum crash on the Rhino cd or the Ace cd, but it was clear to
me on the Complete Instrumentals cd, for a total of 4 drum "crashes" in
all on the introduction.

I don't know, maybe I have a different pressing of the Rhino cd. Or
maybe I'm just not hearing things clearly anymore...I'm sure the drum
crash is in there on the mono versions (Ace and Rhino), but I'm hearing
more organ and guitar, whereas on the stereo version I hear a much
more prevalent drum crash. I was comparing mp3's from my computer,
so maybe there's something odd there. I'll have to check my original
cd's.

I appreciate you checking your 45, Jim. I'm glad to know all 4 crashes
were audible. I know some of those Warwick 45's weren't very good
sounding when they were newer!
