my commercial 45 for the ike & tina turner song 'proud
mary' states the run time on the label as 3:15 but actually
only runs 3:12.....if you fade the 3:20 cd version for 0:05
from 3:07 to 3:12 you'll effectively re-create the vinyl 45
version...

I have the 4:51 version of this song from her "The
Platinum Collection" import CD. Can it be edited down
to the 3:15 single version?

I believe you can if you shorten the slower intro section
by removing a section of the verse and then remove an
entire verse from the faster section.
IIRC, the correct short edit appears on Time Life's Sounds
of The Seventies 1971 but I could be wrong.

I think you are right about that. I just happened to have my 10 volume set of Time-Life "Ultimate Seventies" series handy. Basically, as far as I've found, it's a track
by track clone of Time-Life Sounds of the 70's. Track 12 is "Proud Mary" by Ike & Tina Turner. The player says it is 3:24, but appears to be more like 3:20.

I have an edit that fades out at 3:15 on a VA compilation called, "Dance Sixties" on the JCI Label from the late 80's. If the 45 runs 3:12 like Ed mentioned, I suppose the edit on this comp could be the same as the 45, just 3 seconds slower.

As a side note, I'm curious as to why this song is on a compilation called "Dance Sixties" when it was released and became a hit in 1971.

That kind of oversight happened often, particularly with
early 70s tracks. In this instance, the original CCR
version of "Proud Mary" was originally from the 60s (the
very end of the decade, but nevertheless still apart of
it) so while it technically is a 60s song, the version of
it they used wasn't a 60s version.
