I found a picture of a 45 with a 2:15 timing. Wondering if this is a misprint
(or if there was indeed an edited 45), as the same page also has the 2:42 timing (which is in line with all database entries). 45 pics Edited by davidclark |

I have 2 copies of this single, both Tower 134. One has a
listed & actual time of 2:42, with a fade ending. The other has a listed time of 2:15, with an actual time of 3:08 and a cold ending. The intro is also longer, and sounds like a slightly different mix. Matrix numbers are identical on the label (45-60126), but different in the run-out groove. The 2:42 version has 45-60126-F9 x3 (machine stamped except for the x3), the "2:15" version has faint, handwritten 45-60126-F1. The 2:42 version is all I remember hearing back in '65. Are these commercial copies or dj copies?

Very interesting.
The longer 3:08 version is included on the Varese CD "The Very Best Of Ian Whitcomb". The hit mix is track 1, but this mix is track 24, and is described as (Test Pressing Version). It also states that it was un-released in the U.S. - it appears it apparently got out on some commercial pressings. It is clean on this cd, but mastered from vinyl. Btw, i made a synch-up of the 2 versions years ago to create a crude "mock-stereo".. they are the same recording except the long take is missing the tambourine overdub. |

Mine are both commercial copies. I double-checked and both copies state "MFD in U.S.A.". Edited by Hykker |

Tower wasn't really issuing specific "DJ" copies of 45s back when that record was out, as far as I know, so they could've been promotional copies without actually being listed as such on the labels.

I knew Capitol wasn't issuing promo copies per se in '65, but wasn't sure about their subsidiary labels. I don't remember where my "2:15" copy of the song came from...I've had it since the early 70s. Edited by Hykker |
