Didn't quite make the database but the single runs 3:42 (the label reads 3:39) and plays faster than the Millenium Collection CD. It loses a few seconds off the synth opening and has two 8 bar edits. One at the end of the guitar solo and the other right before the ending.

Is this single version on the Greatest Hits CD or elsewhere?

Every source I've come across domestically has the LP
version.

Awesome song - one of my favorites by Night Ranger. One of the final charting singles on Boardwalk, too, I believe.

Agreed; great song...

TRIVIA: Think you know your '80s music videos??? The majority of Night Ranger's video for "Sing Me Away" was shot at & around a place called the Wheel Inn in Cabazon, CA (signage appears at 1:31, and its main attraction was the many life-size dinosaurs shown throughout the remainder of the video). Two years later (1985), the Wheel Inn would again be used as the primary setting for the video to what song that went all the way to #1 here in the U.S.??? The main reason this trivia has always stuck w/ me is because in the early '80s, I lived only about a half-hour from the Wheel Inn, so it was always cool to see both videos... :-)

The answer is "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" by Tears For Fears. So, what do I win?!?

Dang! Only 56 minutes after I posted, and somebody got it. :-) Guess I made it too easy - shouldn't have given so many details, such as when the second video came out, and the fact that the song went to #1. (*sigh*) But 'fess up, Paul: Were you already aware of that connection prior to reading my post above??? :-)

Quote So, what do I win?!?

Well, since it was you, Paul, I WILL actually make you a prize offer - but I drive a hard bargain, lol. How 'bout a rare early '80s Billboard chart record (vinyl 45) to give to Mr. Whitburn, which is evidently missing from the vault that holds his vast & impressive music collection??? It's actually a first pressing of a record I know he DOES already have, but w/ a different/alternate title printed on the label. (And yes, it's a U.S. pressing - commercial/stock copy, too.) Since this alternate title has never been mentioned in the footnotes of any of his chart books, I'm assuming he doesn't have it (or even know it exists) - and this record made multiple charts, including the almighty "Hot 100"... :-)

Ah, but here's the catch - I'll send you the actual record to keep, on two conditions: 1) The info re: the alternate title gets added as a footnote to all future editions of Record Research's applicable chart books, and 2) You and Mr. Whitburn will soon commence work on a true "soul/r&b annual", which - as I've noted here on Pat's board in the past - has been high on my wish-list for some 20 years now. (The latter is also a big hint as to what type of record I'm talking about, lol.) Deal??? :-) Feel free to PM me...
