I've searched high and low for the edit of Van Halen's "Hot For Teacher" (3:58) and haven't been able to turn it up on YouTube or on any of their albums.

Can anybody tell me the edit points (assuming the mix is identical to the album version) or point me to an album with the edit version?

The stock copy runs 3:59 (printed time of 3:58). There are several edits to cut out the missing 43 seconds of the LP version, and some would be tricky to get right without hearing the 45. I'll send you a dub, Gene.

Aaron, thank you... and boy, were you ever right on the "tricky edits"... even WITH the 45 it is tough to get it right!

I don't know if this will be helpful to anybody, but just in case you want to give it a shot, I list the edit points below. The edit times listed are as you work along the edited file towards the end, and I list the absolute lengths to help you get it right even if your file starts a little sooner or later:

0:13 - 0:22 (8.745 sec)
2:46 - 2:54 (7.607 sec)
2:56 - 3:03 (7.553 sec) (This one's impossible!)
3:07 - 3:11 (3.329 sec) (Nearly impossible.)
3:28 - 3:32 (3.788 sec)
3:36 - 3:40 (3.827 sec)
3:57 - 4:04 (7.403 sec)

Truthfully, I had to edit in mono to be sure I was getting it exact, and I don't know that I could duplicate my edits in stereo even with my own guide... I suspect BlackLight Radio is just going to play Aaron's dub to make sure we're accurate.

This one needs a CD release!!

Van Halen doesn't strike me as a band that cares much about re-
releasing old single versions. I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for this
one.

So this 7" version never appeared on a comp?

Not to my knowledge, no.

I see that there is a 7" promo with a run time of 3:44 printed on the
label (7-29199, BCA 2599S DJ). It also has "RE 1" on the label.
Does this mean it is a DJ reservice? I do not own this to compare. I
was wondering if this is a shorter edit than the 3:58 single version
or if this is a misprint on the label.

I'll have a look through my promo 45s as soon as possible to see if I
have it. I for sure have the stock 45 and at least one of the promos.

Well, to my surprise, I didn't have a promo on file for "Hot For Teacher,"
so I just ordered a copy of the 3:44 edit. I'll report my findings when it
arrives.

Great! I'm surprised you didn't have it. I guy that sells 45s at my
local flea market had 2 or 3 Van Halen promo 45s that I picked up
for a dollar but no HFT. I was super excited as I was thumbing
through anticipating possibly coming across it. I think this is my
favorite part of this hobby.
